US President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, as executive director of the task force for the 2026 World Cup.
The tournament will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. During his first term, Andrew Giuliani served as special assistant to the president and deputy director of the Office of Public Liaison.
President Trump described Mr. Giuliani as a golf enthusiast and highly competitive.
In a post on the Truth Social social network, Mr. Trump also said that Mr. Carlos Cordeiro, a senior advisor to FIFA, will take on the role of senior advisor to the task force.
“Together this group will help plan the biggest, safest and most extraordinary soccer tournament in history,” Mr Trump said at a meeting of the task force, which was also attended by FIFA president Gianni Infantino and US Vice President JD Vance.

President Trump expressed his hope that visitors to the United States to watch the 2026 World Cup will have an enjoyable and smooth experience.
In addition to the 2026 World Cup, the United States will also host the first-ever FIFA Club World Cup from June 14 to July 13, 2025, taking place in 11 cities across the country.
“America will welcome the world ,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said of the US hosting these two important international tournaments.
Mr. Infantino also said that these two events are expected to bring nearly 50 billion USD to the US economy and create nearly 300,000 jobs.
Vice President JD Vance, who serves as vice chairman of the task force, affirmed that the group will do its utmost to ensure the success of the events.
“Of course everyone is welcome to come and witness this incredible event. I know we will have visitors from nearly 100 countries,” Mr. Vance said.
