They don't buy our cars. They don't buy our agricultural products. They sell millions of cars in the United States. They're going to pay a big price," Trump said at a campaign rally in the battleground state of Pennsylvania on October 29. Previously, Trump also announced that he would impose a 10% tariff on imports from all countries and a 60% tariff on imports from China. The Republican presidential candidate promised to pass the "Trump Trade Act" if re-elected. Economists warn that these will impact supply chains around the world, possibly leading to retaliation and increased costs. Trump has always promoted the "America First" policy. During Trump's first term from 2017 to 2020, the US and China were embroiled in a tense trade war when both sides imposed tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars worth of each other's goods. Most recently, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal on October 18, Trump warned that if China entered Taiwan, he would impose a 150%-200% tax on Chinese goods if he was re-elected. During a campaign rally in Washington on October 29, Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris attacked Trump, saying he was seeking uncontrolled power. According to her, Trump is always "obsessed with retaliation". The race to the White House between Trump and Harris is currently very close, but European leaders have long been preparing for the scenario of the former President's re-election in terms of economics, trade, security and military . German Finance Minister Christian Lindner recently warned that Germany would retaliate if the US started a trade war with the EU. According to him, if a trade war broke out, no side would win. According to analysts, if Mr. Trump returns to the White House, the EU will likely seek to reach an agreement with this leader before choosing to apply retaliatory tariffs.
