Phong Nam ancient village covers an area of over 1.6 km² , located in Phong Nam hamlet, Hoa Chau commune, Hoa Vang district (formerly), now Hoa Xuan ward, Da Nang city; 10km southwest of Da Nang city center.

According to documents from the former Hoa Vang District People's Committee, Phong Nam ancient village has a long and rich history, with its predecessor being Phong Le village in Da Ly region - which was settled during the Ho Dynasty in 1404. By the eighth year of Emperor Thành Thái's reign (1896), due to the vast geographical area and the Yên River flowing across it, creating a "diversion by river ferry," the government divided Phong Lệ village into Phong Lệ Bắc (Phong Bắc) and Phong Lệ Nam (Phong Nam).

Despite being separated administratively, the two villages remain as one; all community activities, religious structures, etc., are concentrated in the Phong Nam area.

Throughout its centuries-long history on the banks of the Yen River, Phong Nam has preserved the old features of a traditional village with its ancient communal house, lush green fields, village gate beside an old banyan tree, green bamboo groves running along the village roads, ancient wells, old houses, and a system of folk religious structures in the village...

From March 2025, the local government announced the Phong Nam Cultural Tourism Village Development Project and launched the Hoa Chau Ecological Agricultural Community Tourism Cooperative.

"

The Hoa Chau Ecological Agricultural Community Tourism Cooperative collaborates with 15 local farmers to organize cultural experiences for tourists, aiming for sustainable tourism development and promoting the value of local culture and distinctive agricultural products.

The total estimated cost for the project is over 89 billion VND. Of this, 75.33 billion VND will be allocated to Phong Nam village and 14.02 billion VND to Bo Ban village.

The project aims to preserve and promote cultural values and traditional beauty; improve the material and spiritual lives of the people, in line with the criteria of "advanced new rural communes" and "model new rural communes," along with the unique characteristics of the locality.
