According to Reuters, US President Donald Trump said on April 11 that "the 10% tariff is the floor, or close to the floor, and there may be a few exceptions."
Previously, on April 9 (local time), President Trump posted an article on Truth Social announcing a 90-day postponement of reciprocal taxes with many countries, which will be subject to a common tax rate of 10%.
However, for China, Mr. Trump decided to increase the tariff rate from 104% to 125%.
As of April 11, US tariffs on China totaled 145% after the latest increase - information confirmed by the White House to CNBC.
China immediately retaliated against the US by increasing import tariffs to 125% on US goods, effective from April 12.
Amid the tense tariff war, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said US President Donald Trump remains optimistic about reaching a trade deal with China.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has also warned of the risks the US may face if it continues to pursue a trade war.
"If the US still wants to play a number game with tariffs, China will not mind. However, if the US still deliberately seriously damages China's interests, China will resolutely respond and fight to the end," the Chinese Ministry of Finance said.
