According to RT , President Trump held talks with Russian President Putin in Alaska on August 15 and met with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House three days later. The White House boss stressed that the parties need to start working towards a lasting peace without a ceasefire first.
"I had a very good meeting with President Putin. I had a very successful meeting with President Zelensky. And now I think it would be better if the two leaders of Russia and Ukraine met directly without me. I want to see what happens," President Trump said on August 19.

"You know, they've had a difficult relationship. And now we'll see how they do. If necessary, perhaps, I'll come in and maybe get the deal done," the White House boss continued.
In an interview with Fox News on August 19, President Trump hoped that leader Zelensky would "do what is necessary" to reach a peace agreement with Russia. "He has to show flexibility," the US leader said.
Earlier, on August 18, President Zelensky said he was ready for a potential meeting with President Putin.
Although the Kremlin has not commented on this latest proposal, President Putin has said he is ready to meet with leader Zelensky in the "final stage" of negotiations.
President Putin's assistant, Mr. Yury Ushakov, said on August 19 that Russia supports "continuing direct negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations".
