Trump and Harris clashed briefly.

VTC NewsVTC News22/10/2024

With only about two weeks left until the 2024 US Presidential Election, Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump are locked in a fierce race on battlegrounds that could determine the election's outcome. Polls suggest this year's race for the White House is too close to predict.

On October 21 (local time), Vice President Harris appeared in Pennsylvania with Liz Cheney – a prominent Republican – who urged undecided voters to “reject the harsh criticism from Donald Trump.”

Meanwhile, former President Trump visited Asheville, which was damaged by Hurricane Helene, criticizing the government 's response to the disaster. Later, at a rally in Greenville, he reiterated his campaign message that undocumented immigrants were "destroying" the country.

Seek support away from home.

On October 21 alone, Vice President Harris scheduled events in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin—"Rust Belt" states that supported Trump in 2016 but played a crucial role in President Joe Biden's victory four years later.

Liz Cheney and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, were once considered key figures in the Republican Party but were isolated by Trump's growing influence.

Ms. Cheney announced her support for Vice President Harris last month, saying it was not a difficult decision for a politician or a mother.

She said, "If you don't hire someone to look after your children, then you shouldn't elect that person as President of the United States."

Harris argued that Trump's political influence since the shocking 2016 election has led Americans to "criticize each other" and left the country "exhausted."

She said, "Donald Trump is not serious, and the consequences would be extremely severe if he were to become President of the United States again."

Speaking in Michigan, Harris urged voters to set aside partisan politics when they go to the polls. She said, " On some issues, we all have to be Americans."

Both Democratic and Republican candidates have garnered support from voters in blocs that previously supported their opponents, a sign that the race is very close.

Also on October 21, former President Trump appealed for support from Arab Americans in a social media post, calling Harris "belligerent" for the White House's handling of Israel's conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah.

In Greenville, Trump painted a picture of an America “ravaged and ruined” by immigration, crime, and inflation.

Earlier, in Asheville, North Carolina, the former president reiterated conspiracy theories, accusing the administration of diverting disaster relief funds to finance the entry of undocumented immigrants into the United States, in order to bolster Democratic votes.

State officials were forced to issue a review of the hurricane response after Trump and his supporters made what President Biden called "a series of lies."

In the 2020 election, Trump won a narrow victory in North Carolina.

Both Harris and Trump are striving to win the support of a few thousand swing voters in key areas in order to gain an advantage in the race.

Harris's campaign raised and spent more than $200 million in September, more than three times that of Trump. Despite the vice president's heavy spending, polls show the race has remained close since the end of August.

The latest Washington Post-Schar School poll of registered voters in seven battleground states shows both candidates tied at 47%.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk, a supporter of Trump, significantly impacted the election by pouring $75 million into the political action committee he founded, turning his social media company X into a mouthpiece, and campaigning for Trump in Pennsylvania.

However, Josh Shapiro, the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, suggested that authorities could investigate billionaire Musk's statement on October 19th that he would offer a $1 million reward per day (until Election Day) to anyone who signed the Political Action Committee petition.
