At the AI Developers Conference, CEO Sam Altman shared with over 900 experts his ambitions for building an ecosystem that OpenAI is aiming for, leveraging the popularity of ChatGPT. The creator of the famous AI chatbot also stated that the application currently has 100 million weekly users.
Accordingly, users will have access to personalized AI "applications" for specialized tasks, such as math tutoring or sticker design.
OpenAI calls these customized AI applications “GPT.” The company says this is the first version of an AI assistant that performs real -world tasks, such as booking airline tickets for the user.
Simultaneously, the company will launch the GPT Store, an app store where people can share GPT and earn money based on the number of users. This is OpenAI's latest effort after the failures with building the ChatGPT plugin ecosystem in early 2023.
In addition to GPT, OpenAI also released a series of updates focused on developers, including a significant reduction in service fees – a move that was warmly welcomed.
Accordingly, OpenAI has announced a new GPT-4 Turbo model, which is cheaper than its predecessor but capable of processing more data. The company also revealed an application programming interface (API) for the assistant with vision and image-based methods. In addition, there is a beta version available for developers to customize the GPT-4.
“That was a huge boost for startups like ours. Suddenly, costs dropped threefold,” said Flo Crivello, founder of the AI assistant startup Lindy and one of the conference attendees.
Speaking to the media, Altman said that startups using OpenAI technology shouldn't build simple, integrated applications. "We plan to build clear features, and building deeper integrations creates tremendous value."
The CEO of OpenAI envisions that each person will have multiple compatible GPTs to help them accomplish tasks in the future.
OpenAI wants more businesses and developers to build large-scale language models that compete with Google's Anthropic, as well as open-source models like Meta's Llama. Despite receiving $10 billion in investment, the company that owns ChatGPT is also competing with Microsoft for enterprise customers.
Meanwhile, for the large enterprise customer segment, OpenAI has implemented a custom modeling program, allowing for the creation of specialized GPT-4 applications at a higher price.
(According to Reuters)
OpenAI's direct competitor receives massive investment from Google.
