PC Da Nang: Proactively plan electricity supply scenario in dry season

With the forecast of hot weather occurring in the city during the dry season months of 2025, the expected daily peak power load capacity of Da Nang is 760 MW, an increase of approximately 10.9% compared to the peak in the dry season of 2024. To proactively respond to power supply situations, Da Nang Power Company (PC Da Nang) has been implementing many synchronous solutions to ensure stable power supply during this year's hot season.

Ready options

PC Da Nang forecasts that the maximum daily electricity output will reach 14.9 million kWh, an increase of approximately 8.0% compared to 2024, and the electricity output in 2025 is estimated to reach 4.117 billion kWh, an increase of about 11.0% compared to 2024. In February 2025, the Company developed a power supply plan for 2025, with specific plans submitted to the Department of Industry and Trade for consideration and reporting to the People's Committee of Da Nang City for approval.

The company will work with nearly 300 customers with output of over 1 million kWh/year to agree to participate in the voluntary non-commercial load adjustment and load shifting program; agree with about 4,896 industrial and construction customers (with output of 100,000 kWh or more) on methods to adjust production and business plans to reduce power consumption during peak hours when the system lacks capacity (from 13:00 to 23:00 every day).

The Company continues to encourage all customers to sign DR agreements and update information on DRMS software (https://drms.cpc.vn), be ready to carry out DR events when necessary and have implementation allocation and direction from Vietnam Electricity Group, Central Power Corporation, National Power System Dispatch Center.

In addition, PC Da Nang has also made a list of more than 200 customers equipped with backup diesel generators with an installed capacity of about 250MVA, and an estimated available mobilized capacity of 180MVA to negotiate the mobilization of these sources to self-supply electricity on-site when there is a power shortage on the national power system, especially during peak hours of the dry season.

Since the end of 2024, PC Da Nang has directed its affiliated units to deploy specific solutions to ensure safe and continuous electricity supply in 2025, especially during the dry season from May to August, specifically:

For periodic testing, handling of remaining problems after testing and after inspections must be completed before the dry season. The company will install new distribution substations, share the load between public stations, reduce power loss and power supply radius, strive to reduce the number of customers per substation to no more than 300 customers; the low-voltage grid is branched, segmented on branch lines and connected to neighboring substations, when there is a distribution substation work, there will be no power outage to customers without using mobile substations; at the same time, the low-voltage grid will be improved to avoid bad contact phenomena, share the load, separate the grid appropriately, ensuring the branch load level.

The Company also requires operating management units to regularly monitor the load situation of medium-voltage lines, especially some areas expected to have high loads in the dry season of 2025 such as Ngu Hanh Son, An Don, Hoa Khanh... In high load situations, the Company will transfer medium-voltage lines to lower load areas to ensure load capacity.

During the hot season, to minimize the time and scope of power outages for customers, the Company will also arrange for power outages during off-peak times, increase hotline hot repair work, use mobile substations to handle defects and abnormalities, regularly trim the corridors on the grid, and reduce the risk of incidents caused by trees colliding with medium-voltage lines.

In addition to the solutions mentioned above, to ensure the safe and continuous operation of the power system and avoid sudden power outages, the Company has fully prepared spare materials, vehicles, and additional personnel during hot weather, when many tourists come to Da Nang, leading to high electricity loads... to promptly handle any unusual phenomena occurring on the power grid.

Promote electricity saving propaganda activities

For large manufacturing enterprises, in addition to regularly disseminating and consulting on energy-saving use through many measures such as: changing habits and increasing energy-saving awareness of workers; replacing old machinery and equipment with modern, energy-saving equipment; checking and maintaining machinery periodically and regularly; shifting electricity loads during peak hours... The company also encourages customers to participate in the load adjustment program (DR) to ensure electricity supply for production for enterprises.

In 2025, PC Da Nang will continue to strive to save at least 2% of total electricity consumption, especially during the peak dry season months. Accordingly, the Company has implemented many solutions to reduce pressure on the power system. In particular, it focuses on promoting propaganda and instructing customers to use the EVNCPC CSKH application (App CSKH), proactively monitor electricity consumption in real time, and adjust electricity use appropriately.

In order for customers to understand, raise awareness and change their electricity usage behavior, contributing to reducing pressure on the national electricity system, the Company cooperates with the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang city to implement many meaningful and practical programs such as: Households save electricity to build the image of households with a green, clean, civilized and modern lifestyle through safe, efficient, energy-saving and environmental protection electricity use; Competition program to save electricity using IoT technology "Conquer challenges, conveniently live green" in Da Nang city; Propaganda movement to save electricity in schools...

The Company also requires its affiliated Power Companies to work directly with all construction and industrial customers to promote solutions for energy-saving use, encourage all customers to register capacity and electricity usage for 12 months of 2025 close to the actual situation and usage needs, shift production time to avoid peak hours, reduce capacity when the system has difficulty in supplying electricity, participate in voluntary non-commercial DR events, etc.

In addition, throughout the years, PC Da Nang has maintained the organization of the program "Accompanying customers to use electricity safely, economically and effectively" providing free services such as repairing and cleaning transformer stations for businesses, to support customers to use electricity more economically and effectively.
