Associate Professor Dr. Luong Minh Cu, the multi-talented 'captain'

Distinguished Teacher, Associate Professor, and Doctor Luong Minh Cu, Rector of Cuu Long University, is known not only as a dedicated administrator but also as a poet with rich emotions.

Professor's contributions are clearly demonstrated through each stage of development of Cuu Long University during his time working there, as well as through his literary works that reflect the spirit of the times.

Contributing to remarkable development

As the head of Cuu Long University, Meritorious Teacher, Associate Professor, and Doctor Luong Minh Cu, Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of Cuu Long University, has continuously innovated and implemented comprehensive solutions to propel the university forward, fostering its development and meeting the demands of innovation in higher education , contributing to the nation's development.

Leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training awarded the title of Outstanding Teacher in the Higher Education Sector to Meritorious Teacher, Associate Professor, and Doctor Luong Minh Cu.

In January 2017, Mr. Luong Minh Cu joined Cuu Long University as the Party Secretary and Rector. At that time, the university had approximately 210 staff and lecturers, and had enrolled 502 out of 1,500 students (achieving a rate of 33.5%). The training scale was approximately 8,000 students.

However, to date, the school has more than 1,300 staff, lecturers, and employees (an increase of nearly 400 people compared to the same period in 2024). This includes nearly 70 professors and associate professors; nearly 300 PhDs, 475 masters; and nearly 320 doctors and pharmacists with Specialist Level I and Specialist Level II qualifications.

Regarding student recruitment, in 2026 the university will recruit students for 41 majors with more than 90 undergraduate specializations; the university's training scale will exceed 40,000 students. To date, the university has trained and awarded degrees to nearly 42,000 bachelors and engineers and more than 1,500 masters.

In addition, the university has admitted and trained over 700 foreign students, contributing to the training of high-quality human resources for the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Cambodia. Cuu Long University is one of 20 training institutions assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to provide training, assessment, and certification of Vietnamese language proficiency for foreigners according to the 6-level competency framework.

Over the years, Associate Professor Dr. Luong Minh Cu has consistently focused on quality accreditation. As a result, Cuu Long University was recognized as meeting the quality accreditation standards for educational institutions in the second cycle in 2023, with 22 out of 49 training programs achieving accreditation standards (17 undergraduate programs, 5 master's programs), representing a rate of 44.89%. In 2025 alone, the university aims to have 6 training programs recognized as meeting quality accreditation standards.

Regarding international cooperation, the university is currently collaborating with nearly 200 institutes, universities, associations, and businesses from countries and territories such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Canada, Germany, Australia, Cambodia, Laos, and India... an increase of nearly 50 units compared to 2025.

Associate Professor, Doctor Luong Minh Cu was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the Standing Committee of the Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee for his outstanding achievements in implementing Resolution No. 29 on fundamental and comprehensive reform of education and training.

A poet of memories and human emotions.

Alongside his administrative work, Mr. Luong Minh Cu is also widely known to readers as a poet. His poems quite fully reflect various stages of history and life, such as: the resistance war against the US to save the country; fighting foreign invaders on the northern border and the Khmer Rouge on the southwestern border; love for his homeland, country, and people; and the love between couples…

To commemorate Vietnam's Book and Reading Culture Day, on the evening of April 21, 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association, in collaboration with Cuu Long University, organized a seminar to introduce the poetry collection " Along the Sky of Fiery Flowers " by poet Luong Minh Cu. This is the fifth published poetry collection by Associate Professor-Doctor Luong Minh Cu, alongside " Horizon of the Deep Region " (1976), " Suddenly Spring " (2007), " Spring Bud " (2015), " He Walks Amidst the Buckwheat Flower Season " (2023), and many other multi-authored poetry collections.

Poet Luong Minh Cu was born in 1952 in Dong village, Hong Viet commune, Dong Hung district, Thai Binh province. He studied and graduated from Nam Duy Ha High School in Thai Binh. He also graduated from the University of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly the Faculty of Literature) and the University of Finance and Accounting in Ho Chi Minh City. He defended his doctoral thesis at the Institute of Philosophy, Hanoi (1996).

Poet Luong Minh Cu enlisted in 1970, serving in Battalion 2, Division 305, Special Forces of the Vietnam People's Army. He participated in combat in the Cambodian battlefield, the Southeastern battlefield, and the Saigon - Gia Dinh - Cholon (formerly) Military Region. He previously worked at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Finance and Accounting, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, and the University of Finance and Marketing. Currently, he is the Party Secretary and Rector of Cuu Long University.

Thanks to his dedication and efforts, Professor Luong Minh Cu has received many prestigious awards over the years, including: 7 Certificates of Merit from the Ministry, 6 Certificates of Merit from the province/city; 1 Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister; 1 Second-Class Labor Medal, 1 Third-Class Labor Medal; Outstanding Teacher, Exemplary Teacher, Second-Class Resistance Medal against the US for National Salvation, Medal for the Cause of Education; Third-Class Labor Medal and Itsara Medal awarded by the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; 3 Certificates of Merit from the province/Ministry (awarded by the Lao People's Democratic Republic); and 1 Certificate of Merit from the province/Ministry (awarded by the Kingdom of Cambodia).

Ms. Sisouk Vongvichith, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports of Laos, presented the Third-Class Labor Medal to Meritorious Teacher, Associate Professor, and Doctor Luong Minh Cu in 2023.
