Young faces in the medical industry are dedicated, devoted, and devoted.

Recognized as an Associate Professor at the age of 37, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hau is one of the typical faces of the generation of talented young doctors in the medical industry. However, when meeting him in real life, our first impression of him was his friendly, simple but extremely enthusiastic demeanor. In his eyes, people can easily feel a strong passion for the profession, along with a deep concern for the mission of saving people.

Born into a studious family in Phuong Hoang commune, Thanh Ha district, Hai Duong province, Nguyen Xuan Hau was soon fascinated by the image of doctors and nurses who devoted themselves day and night to treating patients. From a young age, the boy Hau told himself that one day, he would also stand in the ranks of doctors, bringing life to those who were fighting against diseases.

That dream became the motivation for him to constantly strive on the path of learning. In 2010, Nguyen Xuan Hau graduated with honors in General Medicine from Hanoi Medical University. But for him, this was not the end. He continued to pass the exam and study for a residency program in Oncology, determined to delve into research and treatment of one of the most dangerous diseases.

“I have always believed that to bring hope to cancer patients, one needs not only a kind heart but also a solid scientific foundation. Therefore, I decided to pursue this specialized path.” – he shared.

After many years of hard work and research, in 2019, Nguyen Xuan Hau successfully defended his PhD thesis in Medicine, affirming his position in the field of cancer. Not stopping there, he was retained as a lecturer in the Oncology Department at Hanoi Medical University, and directly treated at the Department of Oncology and Palliative Care, Hanoi Medical University Hospital.

Years of teaching and directly treating patients have helped him better understand the pain of those battling the terrible disease. “Every time I see a patient leave the hospital with a smile, I know I have chosen the right path,” he said.

Never stop learning – Creating new advances in medicine

After more than a decade of dedication to the medical industry, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hau has always continuously learned, researched and developed advanced treatment techniques. As an excellent student under the guidance of Professor, Dr. Le Van Quang - Head of the Oncology Department - Hanoi Medical University, Director of K Hospital, Director of the Oncology Center - Hanoi Medical University Hospital, he has successfully applied the technique of endoscopic thyroid surgery through the mouth. This technique has been trained by him, Professor, Dr. Le Van Quang and his team and transferred to doctors across the country. This is a major step forward in the treatment of thyroid diseases not only in the country but also in the world, helping patients not to leave scars and recover quickly.

“The first time I performed this technique, my colleagues and I faced many difficulties. Due to lack of practical experience, the surgery lasted more than 4 hours with the whole team highly focused. I know that the success of the surgery not only brings hope to the patient but also opens up a new direction in treatment” – Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hau shared.

Not stopping there, he continued to learn advanced techniques from countries such as Korea, the Philippines, Thailand... to perfect his techniques. Up to now, his team has been able to shorten the time of endoscopic thyroid surgery through the mouth to less than an hour.

Not only is Nguyen Xuan Hau a good doctor, he is also a dedicated researcher. He has guided many master's and doctoral theses and published hundreds of scientific articles in international journals. At the same time, he and his teacher, Prof. Dr. Le Van Quang, have also published many valuable monographs such as "Head and neck cancer" (2020), "Thyroid cancer" (2021), "Atlas of thyroid surgery" (2021), and "Chemotherapy of cancer" (2021), making an important contribution to the training of oncologists in Vietnam.

For him, becoming an Associate Professor is not only a title, but also a great responsibility. “Being recognized as an Associate Professor is an honor, but I know that the road ahead will be full of challenges. I am responsible not only for my patients but also for the generations of young doctors that I am teaching. If I can inspire and help them find their passion for the profession, then that is true success. I always tell my students that a good doctor is not only someone with solid expertise, but also someone who has a heart for patients. Medicine is not only a science, but also an art of healing.” – the male doctor confided.

No matter what position he holds – from Deputy Director of the Oncology Center, Hanoi Medical University Hospital to lecturer of the Oncology Department, Hanoi Medical University – Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hau always maintains a sense of responsibility and enthusiasm for his profession.

“Medical field is a long road, requiring not only expertise but also ethics and dedication. I hope to develop more advanced methods of diagnosing and treating thyroid cancer, and expand research on other common cancers such as breast, head and neck, lung, colorectal and ovarian cancer. I also hope that the Vietnamese healthcare system will increasingly invest in updating modern equipment such as robotic surgery and proton radiotherapy in cancer treatment,” he said.

For many years, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hau has achieved the title of Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level, and has been awarded many certificates of merit by all levels and sectors. Notably, on November 20, 2023, he was honored to be recognized as meeting the standards for the title of Associate Professor and just over a month later, on December 29, 2023, Hanoi Medical University officially appointed him to this position. This is not only a worthy recognition of his efforts, but also a motivation to continue to contribute to the country's medicine.

The journey of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hau is a testament to perseverance, responsibility and dedication to the profession. From a boy from the countryside of Hai Duong with the dream of becoming a doctor, he has constantly strived to become an expert in the field of cancer, a dedicated teacher and a doctor who always puts the patient's life first. For him, the medical profession is not just a profession, but a lifelong mission.
