On December 10th, Acting Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee, Ha Sy Dong, signed a decision approving the Project for the Development of Organic Rice Production in conjunction with sustainable value chain linkages for the period 2025-2030 in the province.

Accordingly, the specific target by 2025 is to strive to increase the area of organic rice cultivation by at least 684 hectares to achieve the goal set in the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term. At the same time, 1.59 km of inland irrigation canals will be concreted to serve organic rice production and natural farming. In the period 2026-2030, the goal is to increase the area of organic rice cultivation by at least 1,000 hectares to reach 2,000 hectares of organic rice production by 2030.
The project will be implemented on surveyed and planned areas for organic rice production in the districts of Hai Lang, Trieu Phong, Gio Linh, Vinh Linh, and Cam Lo. The total budget for the project is over 179.7 billion VND; of which over 74.8 billion VND comes from the central and provincial governments, nearly 12.9 billion VND from the districts, and over 92.06 billion VND from businesses and the people.
The plan also clearly defines the content and groups of solutions for implementation, including promoting awareness and capacity building for people, cooperatives, and production groups in promoting organic rice production; planning and improving field infrastructure; applying scientific and technological advancements in production; promoting trade and expanding consumer markets, along with solutions for investment and effective implementation of central and local policies.
Through this project, localities will focus on improving farmland, forming large fields, creating favorable conditions for the application of mechanization in agricultural production, reducing production costs, and increasing profits for farmers by at least 1.2 - 1.5 times compared to traditional production.
On the other hand, implementing organic rice production models and expanding the cultivated area not only contributes to creating products beneficial to human health but also raises awareness and changes farming methods among people in sustainable agricultural production. At the same time, it will create a green, clean, and beautiful environment, contributing to the promotion of sustainable ecotourism.
It is known that, as of the end of 2024, the area of organic rice cultivation and natural farming on certified land in the entire province only reached 316.7 hectares (achieving 31.7% of the target set by the Resolution of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term); the area of uncertified organic rice cultivation was 264.77 hectares; and the area cultivated according to organic farming methods was 724.53 hectares.
Therefore, it is necessary to focus on implementing the project's comprehensive and decisive solutions to encourage and facilitate farmers, cooperatives, and businesses to expand the area of linked production and consumption of organic rice in the coming period.
