In his opening remarks and program launch, Comrade Nguyen Hai Anh, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, affirmed that the special relationship between Vietnam and Cuba has always been preserved and nurtured by generations of Party and State leaders and people of both countries, developing steadily and bearing fruit in all fields. The relationship between the two countries has become a model of international solidarity, an enduring and rare symbol in the history of international relations.
Sixty-five years ago, in 1960, when Vietnam was engaged in a difficult war of resistance against the United States, Cuba was the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. In the "land of fire" Quang Tri, leader Fidel Castro once again affirmed his immortal declaration, "For Vietnam, Cuba is ready to shed even its own blood!"
In 2025, the two countries will organize the "Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year," commemorating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1960-2025). Within the framework of the friendship year, a campaign to support the Cuban people will be implemented to mobilize resources to assist the Cuban people with medical supplies, essential goods, and sustainable development cooperation, contributing to helping the Cuban people overcome difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, and the embargo and blockade policies.
With the messages “Vietnam - Cuba: Forever shoulder to shoulder in challenges - Sharing amidst hardships” and “Vietnam is always there,” the Vietnam Red Cross Society calls on the leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, ministries, departments, political and social organizations, associations, provinces, cities, agencies, units, businesses, all cadres, civil servants, officers, soldiers, workers, students, and compatriots at home and abroad to actively respond to and support the Program, contributing to further enhancing the image of a loyal, affectionate, steadfast, sharing, and compassionate Vietnam.
Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Do Van Chien, delivered a speech at the launching ceremony.
Delivering a keynote address at the launching ceremony, Comrade Do Van Chien, Member of the Political Bureau, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Central Mass Organizations, and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, affirmed that this event has profound political, social, and diplomatic significance, commemorating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba; consistently demonstrating the spirit of the Party, State, and People of Vietnam towards Cuba on the path of national independence and socialism.
The program to support the Cuban people not only aims at providing material assistance but also strongly spreads the message of sharing, empathy, and international solidarity, affirming that under any circumstances, the Vietnamese people will always stand shoulder to shoulder with the Cuban people.
The Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front expressed his hope that the Red Cross Society would call upon all levels, sectors, the business community, individuals both domestically and abroad, and all strata of the Vietnamese people to provide material and spiritual support to the Cuban people through practical actions, helping their country stabilize its life and continue to develop.
