The competition, organized by the Health and Life Newspaper in collaboration with the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund, aims to promote the proactive and positive spirit of healthcare facilities nationwide in building a clean and safe environment for medical examination and treatment, contributing to improving the quality of healthcare services and protecting public health.
The competition is implemented nationwide, with participants including hospitals with 100 beds or more, regardless of whether they are public or private, hospitals affiliated with universities, or hospitals under ministries and government agencies.
Since 2012, the National Assembly has enacted the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harm, which stipulates a complete ban on smoking within the premises of healthcare facilities.
The first competition attracted nearly 300 participating healthcare facilities, creating a vibrant emulation movement among healthcare facilities nationwide towards a green, clean, and smoke-free environment.
The second competition was organized to further build upon the achievements already made, while also discovering, honoring, and replicating effective models and initiatives in building smoke-free healthcare facilities nationwide.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE COMPETITION
Contest name: "Smoke-Free Healthcare Facility" - 1st Edition.
- Organizing Committee: Co-Chairs are Mr. Tran Tuan Linh, M.Sc., Journalist – Editor-in-Chief of Health and Life Newspaper, and Dr. Ha Anh Duc, MD, PhD – Vice Chairman of the National Medical Council, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, and Director of the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund.
- Timeframe: From June 2026 to November 2026.
- Eligible participants: Healthcare facilities with 100 or more beds, defined as hospitals nationwide (including hospitals under the Ministry of Health, university hospitals, ministerial/sector hospitals; private hospitals; hospitals under provincial/city administration and grassroots healthcare facilities) ( hereinafter referred to as healthcare facilities ).
How to participate and the competition rounds.
- Healthcare facilities eligible to participate in the competition can register online at https://khongkhoithuocla.vn
- The registration period is expected to run from June 1, 2026 to 5 PM on June 25, 2026.
The competition consists of two rounds.
- Round 1 (Preliminary Round) From July 1, 2026 to August 31, 2026

+ The judging and announcement of results for round 2 will take place from July 15, 2026 to August 31, 2026.
The participating units competed in three parts.
- Multiple-choice section: Answer 25 online questions about preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco.
- Application process: Submit information and supporting documents demonstrating the establishment of a smoke-free healthcare facility at your institution.
- For the online voting section, units can organize a campaign to vote for "Units that have done well in building smoke-free healthcare facilities."
2. Round 2 ( Final Round ): From September 1, 2026 to October 31, 2026.

+ The period for grading, surveying, evaluating, and compiling and announcing results is from September 21, 2026 to October 31, 2026.
Units advancing to Round 2 will have two parts to the competition:

Prize structure
A total of 44 awards were presented, including:
- 4 First Prizes: worth 20 million VND each.
- 8 Second Prizes: 15 million VND each.
- 12 Third Prizes: 10 million VND each.
- 20 Fourth Prizes: 8 million VND each.
