Launching an AI short film competition.

On May 18th, the Vietnam Association for the Development of Cultural Industries, Ho Chi Minh City branch, in collaboration with the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Creative Literature and Arts, Ho Chi Minh City branch, organized the first AI short film competition in 2026 with the theme: “Vietnamese Legends Through the Lens of AI” (Vietnam AI Film 2026, 1st edition).

The competition is part of the "Together We Tell the Story of Vietnam" program, which aims to encourage the creative community, especially young people, to apply AI technology to retell the history, legends, culture, and beauty of Vietnam through modern cinematic language.

At the event, Mr. Lai Minh Tu, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City branch of the Vietnam Association for the Development of Cultural Industries, stated that Vietnam AI Film 2026 was created with the goal of ushering in a new era of creativity – where artificial intelligence technology combines with cinema to recreate the historical beauty, culture, and people of Vietnam through modern visual language.

Mr. Lai Minh Tu, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City branch of the Vietnam Association for the Development of Cultural Industries, delivered a speech at the program.

This is a large-scale AI short film competition aimed at the content creation community, filmmakers, students, AI creators, and film enthusiasts nationwide, organized by the Vietnam Cultural Industry Development Association, Ho Chi Minh City branch, in collaboration with technology, film, and cultural organizations.

With the message "Using AI to retell Vietnamese legends in a new cinematic language," Vietnam AI Film 2026 is not just a film competition, but also a technology-creativity-culture playground where young people can transform their imagination into cinematic films using AI.

A unique aspect of Vietnam AI Film 2026 is its focus on developing Vietnam's cultural industry in the digital age, where national history and culture are approached with a new, more modern and creative mindset, making it more accessible to the younger generation.

Candidates can choose one of three content groups:

Group 1 - Creating AI-generated short films recreating battles, historical figures, and national heroes of Vietnam such as Mai Thúc Loan (Mai Hắc Đế), Ngô Quyền, Trần Hưng Đạo, Lê Lợi, and Nguyễn Huệ.

Group 2 - Creating AI-powered short films that reconstruct ancient civilizations and societies in Vietnamese history based on archaeological data.

Group 3 - Creating AI-powered short films showcasing scenic spots and cultural tourism in Vietnamese provinces and cities.

Vietnam AI Film 2026 is expected to attract thousands of entries nationwide and is anticipated to become one of the first milestones in bringing AI technology into the future of telling the story of Vietnam through cinema.
