Launching the Robotacon WRO 2023 World Robot Competition in Vietnam

With the theme “Global Engagement”, the competition is co-organized by the Embassy of Denmark and Viet Tinh Anh Joint Stock Company - LEGO Education. Attending the launching ceremony were Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do; Mr. Nicolai Prytz, Ambassador of Denmark to Vietnam, along with leaders of the Departments of Education and Training, and schools in the Northern provinces.

WRO-World Robot Olympiad is one of the most prestigious and largest global competitions for teenagers from 6 to 19 years old. This is an opportunity for students from all over the world to demonstrate their thinking and problem-solving abilities through competitions and challenges in Robotics, as well as creative projects.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Nicolai Prytz emphasized: “Robotacon WRO 2023 is the most prestigious and largest science, technology and education competition in Vietnam for young people. This is an interesting playground, contributing to training young Vietnamese people in 21st century skills such as critical thinking, teamwork, problem solving and mastering technology . Ranking is not the destination of the competition, but through the competition, students have the opportunity to promote creativity, invent and explore science together, know how to apply the knowledge they have learned to life; contribute to cultivating a generation ready to face and solve the problems and challenges of the future”.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do shared: “Currently, the Ministry of Education and Training has organized the pilot implementation and mass implementation of STEM education at the secondary level; piloted STEM education at the primary level in 7 provinces/cities, achieving very positive results. The Ministry of Education and Training has continued to direct localities to implement STEM education according to the roadmap. In 2023, each province/city will implement STEM education in at least 5 districts, each district/city will implement at least 5 primary schools. By the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, it will be widely implemented in all primary education institutions nationwide. With the current general education program, STEAM Robotics can meet the needs of students from grades 1 to 12. This is important content for students in the current era of technology development 4.0, students must gradually become familiar with new languages. the most basic programming language. The Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam believes that the Launching Ceremony of the Robotacon - WRO 2013 competition will further strengthen and develop the educational and training cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark in many aspects, supporting the fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education and training that Vietnam is carrying out.

As the copyright holder of the Robotacon WRO competition in Vietnam, Ms. Dang Ngoc, General Director of Viet Tinh Anh Joint Stock Company, expressed her joy that this year's competition was held nationwide for the first time: "The expanded competition will increase the opportunity to select more outstanding teams and individuals from Vietnam in the field of robotics. We believe that the educational method that emphasizes the role of practical lessons will help students become confident, grasp quickly and remember the knowledge they have learned for a long time."

This year, the Robotacon WRO competition will have 2 qualifying rounds: In Ho Chi Minh City (Southern region), there will be about 300 competing teams and in Hai Phong (Northern region), there are expected to be 200 competing teams. There will be 4 groups corresponding to the age groups, the students will come up with projects and solutions suitable for the theme "Global Connections". The top 20% of contestants will receive medals, gifts and certificates along with the right to participate in the Final Round which will take place in Hanoi in August 2023. The Organizing Committee will find the best teams and contestants, award 6 championship prizes, each worth 50 million VND and represent Vietnam to compete in the World Finals in Panama in November 2023.
