Venerable Thich Hue Khai, Standing Member of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, and Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Dong Nai City, stated: Humanitarian and charitable activities are a beautiful aspect of Buddhism in general and Dong Nai Buddhism in particular. Monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers always consider sharing with the poor, those in difficult circumstances, and the vulnerable in society as a responsibility, contributing to serving society. Therefore, humanitarian and charitable activities are not only carried out during natural disasters, epidemics, or difficult times, but are maintained regularly and consistently. Dong Nai Buddhism implements diverse humanitarian and charitable activities to meet the needs of the poor, those in difficult circumstances, and the vulnerable.

Regarding acts of gratitude, Venerable Thich An Thuan has maintained activities of showing gratitude, providing support, donating cash, gifts, and wheelchairs to families of martyrs, those who contributed to the revolution, former revolutionary soldiers who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy, victims of Agent Orange, former youth volunteers, and veterans in difficult circumstances; while also maintaining visits and care for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year). Besides donating gifts to the blind and leprosy patients, Phap Tuyen Buddhist Temple also contributes to the Charitable Kitchen program at hospitals; provides cash and insurance for underprivileged dialysis patients; builds houses for the needy; and provides free medical examinations and medicine…

This year's Buddha's Birthday celebration takes place in a very special context – commemorating the founding of Dong Nai City and the 136th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth – resulting in vibrant humanitarian and charitable activities. According to Venerable Thich Hue Khai, Buddhist establishments have implemented many practical activities to care for the poor, support those in difficult circumstances, contribute to the construction of social welfare projects, and carry out numerous community-oriented charitable programs estimated at billions of dong. These activities not only help people overcome difficulties but also share some of the responsibility with the government in ensuring social welfare.

According to statistics from the Executive Board of the Buddhist Association of Dong Nai City: In the four years (2022-2025), the Executive Board of the Buddhist Association of Dong Nai has focused on and directed its branches to mobilize resources from organizations, individuals, philanthropists, followers, and the community to carry out humanitarian and charitable work with a total budget of over 643 billion VND.

Continue contributing to the city's development.

From April 30, 2026, Dong Nai officially became the 7th city in the country. Like all citizens of Dong Nai city, monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers expressed their joy and excitement at Dong Nai's elevation to a higher status.

During a recent visit and congratulatory meeting with a delegation of leaders from the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Nai province on the occasion of the Buddha's Birthday, Venerable Thich Hue Sanh, Member of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, and Deputy Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Dong Nai city (Thanh Long Pagoda, Tran Bien ward), expressed his delight that Dong Nai has become a city.

In particular, Venerable Thich Hue Sanh expressed his delight that the city had just launched a special 500-day emulation campaign titled "Unity - Discipline - Efficiency - Breakthrough, building a civilized and modern Dong Nai." This action demonstrates the high determination of the entire political system of the city in building a civilized and modern Dong Nai. It also affirms the determination to continue propagating and mobilizing Buddhists to abide by the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws, and actively participate in patriotic emulation movements, contributing to the city's development through concrete and practical actions.

Venerable Thich Hue Khai, Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Association in Dong Nai City, shared: When Dong Nai was upgraded to a city, the Executive Board of the Buddhist Association of the city discussed with monks, nuns, and Buddhists throughout the city about the direction of activities for the new phase. With the spirit of "self-benefit and benefiting others" (meaning that only when one is strong oneself can one have the conditions to care for others), the Executive Board of the Buddhist Association of the city has determined that instead of organizing activities outside the city, in the coming time, it will pay more attention to people in difficult circumstances, vulnerable people, people in border areas, ethnic minority areas, and other disadvantaged areas in the city.

In addition, the Executive Board of the Buddhist Association of the city also directs Buddhist establishments to focus on supporting livelihoods, creating conditions for people to have jobs and income sources, and improving their quality of life. When people have the conditions to work, produce, and be economically self-sufficient, the issue of ensuring social security will be much more meaningful.

In addition to humanitarian and charitable activities that contribute to social welfare, and to contribute to the city's development, the Executive Board of the Buddhist Association of Dong Nai City will continue to mobilize monks, nuns, and Buddhists to effectively implement campaigns to build a cultured lifestyle in each temple, maintain environmental hygiene, improve the urban landscape to be green, clean, and beautiful, build a cultured lifestyle in residential areas, and participate in maintaining security and order... With the tradition of "protecting the nation and ensuring the people's well-being," and the spirit of living "a good life and a beautiful religion," Dong Nai Buddhism will continue to join hands in building a civilized, prosperous, and compassionate city, contributing to the development of the country.
