Regarding the incident where the Grab map displayed incorrect names of many islands in Vietnam's Truong Sa archipelago, at a working session with the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, Grab Vietnam Company recognized the seriousness of the incident and immediately implemented measures to review and update map data to ensure Vietnam's national sovereignty .

Accordingly, the Department of Information and Communications fined Grab Vietnam Company 60 million VND because the map image of Grab application displayed incorrect names of many islands in Vietnam's Truong Sa archipelago.

Along with the fine of 60 million VND, the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City also required Grab Vietnam Company to commit to remedy the situation as well as implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and strictly comply with legal regulations in its business activities.

Grab Vietnam Company was administratively sanctioned according to Point b, Clause 7, Article 102, Decree No. 15/2020 stipulating administrative sanctions in the fields of post, telecommunications, radio frequencies, radio frequencies, information technology and electronic transactions.

According to the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, through state management work and information posted on the press related to the incident where the Grab map displayed incorrect names of many islands in Vietnam's Truong Sa archipelago, the Department worked with Grab Vietnam Company to clarify the violations.

At the meeting, Grab Vietnam Company confirmed the violation and said it was cooperating with a map data provider, OpenStreetMap, to create a base map on the Grab application.

Grab Vietnam said: Regarding the display of maps on the Grab application, we have worked closely with the authorities in a spirit of openness and cooperation, and will strictly comply with the requirements of the authorities according to regulations. Grab sincerely thanks the comments of the authorities and the community in the past time.

"This will be valuable experience for Grab to improve its operations and serve the Vietnamese people better and better. Grab Vietnam Company commits to strictly and thoroughly control and ensure compliance with the display and update of data on the Grab application's map," Grab said.
