A surprising archaeological discovery has just been announced in the southeastern region of Jordan's Wadi Rum reserve, revealing deep historical connections between ancient Egypt and this Middle Eastern land.
According to a VNA correspondent in the Middle East, Jordan's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities - Ms. Lina Annab - announced on April 19 that archaeologists in the country have discovered a Pharaoh hieroglyphic inscription engraved with the royal seal belonging to King Ramses III of ancient Egypt (1184-1153 BC).
This is the first time such a relic has been found on Jordanian territory, opening a new chapter in the study of the relationship between the Nile civilization and the wider Arabian Peninsula region.
Ms. Annab could not hide her excitement when calling Jordan an "open library" with a rich epigraphic heritage, noting that the hieroglyphic discovery provided an important new perspective on the Middle Eastern country's written heritage.
Renowned Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass also highlighted the importance of the new discovery, which includes two carvings of Pharaoh Ramses III's birth name and his throne name, confirming that this Pharaoh was the ruler of both Upper and Lower Egypt.
Mr. Hawass said that finding the name of King Ramses III in southern Jordan is of great significance and could lead to further important revelations about the historical relationship between Jordan and ancient Egypt from more than 3,000 years ago./.
