Australian scientists have discovered a new virus that can destroy drug-resistant super bacteria, opening up a new direction in the fight against antibiotic resistance.

Scientists from Monash University, Australia, have just published an important study on the discovery of a new type of virus that can kill drug-resistant superbugs. This discovery opens up new prospects in preventing antibiotic resistance - an increasingly serious problem worldwide.

Scientists have found two previously unknown variants of a bacteria-eating virus in a waterway in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. When created in the lab, the variants were shown to kill antibiotic-resistant superbugs commonly found in hospitals to varying degrees. The team hopes the findings will lead to more virus variants in nature that have the potential to kill superbugs.
