The effectiveness of the "multi-crop, multi-livestock" model.
Mr. Phan Ngoc Trung's economic model is a prime example of exploiting the potential of hilly land in Tan Thuy village. After working in Da Nang for a period, in 2021, Mr. Trung decided to return to his hometown to start a business on more than 2.5 hectares of family land. With an innovative mindset, he has systematically planned his farming according to the "multi-crop, multi-livestock" model.
Currently, his farm dedicates 2 hectares to growing fruit trees such as dragon fruit, coconut, lychee, mango, and green pomelo. The remaining area is used to grow corn and water spinach to provide a steady supply of feed for his family's herd of 10 cows and nearly 100 ducks. The distinguishing feature of Mr. Trung's model is his entirely organic production process. He applies a biological bedding method in duck farming and uses small fresh fish as feed, completely replacing industrial feed. Thanks to this rigorous production process, the farm's products are always well-received by the market.
Mr. Trung shared: “Previously, my family practiced inorganic farming, which led to soil degradation, frequent pest and disease problems, and unstable yields. With technical support from the commune People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, I switched to organic farming, linking the value chain with Que Lam Group. The circular model helps utilize composted manure for fertilizing plants and growing crops for animal feed, reducing input costs while creating sustainable livelihoods. With this approach, my family's total income reaches over 200 million VND per year.”

Towards the formation of concentrated production areas.
Of the total area of over 6,000 hectares of hilly land in Vinh Thuy, 4,000 hectares are covered by melaleuca forests, 1,093 hectares by rubber trees, and the remaining more than 1,000 hectares are planted with short-term agricultural crops and fruit trees. Taking advantage of this, the locality has focused on developing large-scale livestock farming, maintaining a total herd of over 130,000 head of cattle and poultry. Thanks to the effective exploitation of land potential, the total value of agricultural, forestry, and fishery production in the commune reached over 160 billion VND in 2025.
Based on this experience, the hilly western area of Vinh Thuy has become a key area in the restructuring of crop and livestock production in the commune, with approximately 70 integrated economic models proving effective. Notably, among them are 7 models applying circular organic farming technology. The implementation of these pilot models not only contributes to ensuring food safety and protecting the ecological environment but also directly changes the farming mindset of local people from extensive to intensive development, aiming for sustainable development.
Mr. Diep Hong Cuong, Head of the Economic Department of Vinh Thuy Commune, said: “The commune has actively coordinated with specialized agencies to organize training on organic farming for the people. The economic efficiency of traditional inorganic methods is unstable and causes soil degradation. Therefore, the commune's orientation in the coming time is to continue encouraging people to invest in the circular model, supporting the formation of 10-15 more pilot models to expand the organic product chain.”
Recognizing that a circular organic economy is a key solution to enhance the value of the hilly areas, Vinh Thuy commune is proposing to the province and the Department of Agriculture and Environment to approve a specialized project with the main goal of forming concentrated production areas for high-quality fruit trees, spices, and livestock. Simultaneously, the commune is promoting the application of biotechnology in waste treatment to protect the environment and complete the criteria, striving to achieve advanced new rural standards by 2030.
