Developing cultural and artistic activities to serve tourists.

Việt NamViệt Nam08/01/2024

In July 2020, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1129/QD-TTg approving the Project on the Development of the Nighttime Economy in Vietnam, with the immediate focus on tourism development. Accordingly, nighttime tourism is concentrated in two groups: products associated with community culture and entertainment, and products associated with cultural and artistic programs.

While tourism products linked to community culture and entertainment have been developed, those related to cultural and artistic programs still lack significant investment. Therefore, there is a need for high-quality, culturally profound art programs and evening shows, as culture is the soul of tourism products and the differentiating factor that tourists always seek. Besides the advantage of developing water sports tourism and sightseeing, Binh Thuan's tourism industry also focuses on exploiting the potential and promoting the value of its rich and diverse cultural heritage, especially historical architectural relics and folk festivals, to attract tourists.

The province currently boasts over 70 classified historical and cultural relics and scenic spots, including 28 national relics and scenic spots, and 4 intangible cultural heritage sites included in the national list of intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Alongside this, folk cultural festivals are restored and organized annually according to proper rituals and customs, ensuring healthy folk cultural elements and meeting the cultural, spiritual, and religious needs of the ethnic communities. Many relics and festivals have become attractive destinations for tourists, contributing to showcasing the unique cultural features of the coastal residents of Binh Thuan. Not only does this create a strength for the tourism industry and contribute to the socio-economic development of the locality, but the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage values have also quickly brought cultural life to ethnic minority communities, maintaining and strengthening national unity. Destinations that have formed cultural tourism products, focusing on exploring historical sites and intangible cultural heritage, include Duc Thanh School – where teacher Nguyen Tat Thanh once taught, the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Base during the resistance against the US, Po Sah Inu Cham Tower, Van Thuy Tu, Thầy Thím Shrine, Co Thach Pagoda, etc. National-level cultural festivals include: the Katê Festival of the Cham people, the Thầy Thím Shrine Festival in La Gi town, the Nghinh Ông Festival of the Chinese community in Phan Thiet city, and the Cau Ngu Festival in Van Thuy Tu. In addition, Binh Thuan also boasts traditional craft villages such as pottery making, brocade weaving, basket weaving, rice paper making, and fish sauce production. This region also boasts many unique dishes associated with the lives of people in coastal areas and specialized agricultural production zones, which are becoming increasingly well-known to tourists, such as hot pot, scad fish salad, herring fish rolls, sun-dried squid, rice paper rolls, and dishes and drinks made from dragon fruit. Regarding the development of arts to support the night-time economy, Binh Thuan also has great potential for growth.

At the closing ceremony of the 2023 National Tourism Year, themed "Binh Thuan: A Green Convergence," held on the evening of December 27, 2023, an artistic program featuring over 600 artists and performers from within and outside the province was presented. The program showcased unique and impressive artistic content, deeply rooted in the traditions and culture of Binh Thuan – the South Central Coast region. This created a highlight at the end of the year, contributing to the cultural and artistic enjoyment of the people and tourists from near and far. To commemorate Binh Thuan Tourism Day annually on October 24th, Binh Thuan province also organized numerous artistic programs to introduce and promote Binh Thuan as a safe, friendly, and high-quality tourist destination, attracting visitors.

With the desire to create more products and services to serve the people and tourists in addition to entertainment, shopping and culinary activities in the future, Binh Thuan will develop its night economy, which will include art programs associated with events to serve tourists…
