Hung Huynh's representatives have issued an official statement regarding the controversy surrounding the music video "Can't Close My Eyes, " which is suspected of plagiarizing ideas from Jungkook (BTS)'s " Standing Next To You " music video. Based on intellectual property laws and the results of a professional assessment, as concluded in document number 01/2025/KLGD-TTGD dated January 7, 2025, by the Center for Assessment, Information and Transfer of Copyright and Related Rights under the Copyright Office, the music video " Can't Close My Eyes " does not plagiarize Jungkook's " Standing Next To You" music video.
"The music video ' Can't Close My Eyes' and Hung Huynh personally do not infringe on any copyright or related rights to the music video ' Standing Next To You' such as the rights to name, be credited, create derivative works, copy, publish, or protect the integrity of the work under current Intellectual Property Law and related regulations," reads the original statement from Hung Huynh's legal counsel and authorized representative.
Hung Huynh's first official solo music video has been causing a stir in public opinion for almost a month now.
Simultaneously, the Center for Expertise and the Advisory Council on Copyright Expertise, as stipulated in Decision 08/QD-TTGD, comprising representatives from the Vietnam Musicians Association, the Department of Management and International Cooperation on Copyright and Related Rights - Copyright Office, and various musicians and directors, concluded: "There is no copying between the audio and video recording 'Can't Close My Eyes' by Hung Huynh and the audio and video recording ' Standing Next To You' by Bighit Music Co., LTD."
In addition, Hung Huynh's side affirmed that they will use legal means to address acts of defamation or false information that affect the legitimate rights and interests of the male singer.
On December 15, 2024, Hung Huynh – the promising face of "Anh trai say hi" (Brother Says Hi) – released his debut music video, " Can't Close My Eyes. " The MV was directed by Ung Duy Kien, produced by Film55 Production and Hung Huynh, based on the song of the same name composed by musician Trung Tran (Tran Chi Trung), with music produced by Kewtiie (Dinh Minh Hieu).
This music video quickly received mixed reactions from the public. In particular, some viewers commented that the music video "Can't Close My Eyes" resembled Jungkook (BTS)'s " Standing Next To You " music video released last year. Many comments pointed out similarities between the two music videos, suggesting that Hung Huynh's debut product copied Jungkook's music video in terms of fashion style, camera angles, and even the setting.
Hung Huynh's career has been significantly affected by this plagiarism controversy.
Later, the handsome British singer said he appreciated and understood that all the feedback was good and that he must accept it to try to do better and improve in the future. Hung Huynh, whose real name is Huynh Hoang Hung, is from Dong Nai province. He was a trainee at a South Korean entertainment company based in Vietnam for three years.
