On the evening of November 25, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the 23rd meeting of the National Steering Committee on Combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU). The meeting was connected online to 21 coastal provinces and cities across the country. At the Khanh Hoa bridge, Mr. Trinh Minh Hoang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial IUU Steering Committee, along with leaders of departments, branches and localities attended the meeting.

At the meeting, leaders of central ministries, branches and some localities reported on the results achieved and some remaining issues in implementing the tasks assigned by the Prime Minister , Head of the National Steering Committee on IUU after the 22nd meeting and previous meetings.
In Khanh Hoa, the fight against IUU fishing continues to achieve many positive results. Up to now, the province has completed 16/19 assigned tasks; 3 tasks are being urgently implemented including: Building a project on career conversion for fishermen, preparing food for fishermen during the transition period (in the immediate future, the Government will support 3 months of food); promulgating policies on career conversion and liquidation of fishing vessels that do not need to operate in fisheries; implementing a plan to number and manage fishing vessels under 6m in length and vessels serving aquaculture activities in the province. The whole province currently has 5,135 fishing vessels, 100% of which have been registered, marked according to regulations, fully updated on Vnfishbase software; 100% of fishing vessels have been licensed to exploit aquatic products; currently there are no fishing vessels that have not been registered, have not installed VMS and do not have a valid fishing license; 10/10 qualified fishing ports have been announced to open; all fishing ports apply the eCĐT electronic seafood traceability system for ships entering and leaving ports... In the coming time, the province will continue to focus on implementing key tasks such as: Absolutely not allowing fishing vessels and fishermen to violate illegal seafood exploitation in foreign waters; strictly control fishing vessels entering and leaving ports, ensuring compliance with regulations...
Directing at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the seriousness, urgency, and high determination of ministries, branches, and localities in combating IUU fishing and removing the EC's IUU yellow card warning. The Prime Minister emphasized that it is absolutely necessary to remove the EC's IUU "yellow card" warning in 2025; at the same time, in the spirit of "6 clear", by November 30, ministries, branches, and localities must complete all assigned tasks in the peak month of combating IUU fishing; the heads must take full responsibility before the Government and the Prime Minister if IUU fishing vessels are allowed to recur. Particularly for coastal localities, the Prime Minister requested to firmly grasp the situation, focus on leadership, and direct resolutely, comprehensively, and effectively the work of combating IUU fishing in the area; absolutely not allow violations to recur, affecting the common efforts of the whole country in removing the "yellow card" warning; Maintain strict control of all fishing vessels and fishing activities at sea; absolutely do not allow unqualified fishing vessels to participate in fishing activities; promptly and thoroughly handle IUU violations...
