Philippine businesses are ready with the necessary procedures, infrastructure, and testing facilities to quickly import African swine fever vaccines manufactured in Vietnam.
In an exclusive interview with the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Phung Van Thanh, Commercial Counselor of the Vietnamese Trade Office in the Philippines, stated that Vietnam and the Philippines have great prospects for trade cooperation in the production and export of vaccines.
Specifically, on March 29th, Dabaco Group will hold the inauguration ceremony for the Dacovet vaccine factory and announce the commercial launch of the African Swine Fever (ASF) vaccine. On this occasion, the Vietnamese Trade Office in the Philippines, in coordination with relevant ministries, agencies, and domestic businesses, has connected with and invited a delegation of Philippine businesses to attend the event and explore the Vietnamese market to seek trade opportunities in this field.

Mr. Phung Van Thanh stated that 13 representatives from Philippine agencies/businesses will be visiting Vietnam this time. The head of the delegation is Dr. Constante J. Palabrica, DVM - Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Philippines - in charge of livestock and poultry.
The group of Philippine agencies/businesses visiting Vietnam this time is divided into three main components.
Firstly , a representative from the Philippine Department of Agriculture – the agency with the primary function and authority in recognizing test results, approving, and licensing African swine fever vaccines in the Philippines.
Secondly, there is the group of businesses and experts. These businesses, including EDL Group, are interested in collaborating with Dabaco.
With the approval of the Philippine Department of Agriculture, EDL Group has prepared the necessary procedures, infrastructure, and testing facilities to quickly import ASF vaccines to meet the needs of Philippine pig farmers. In addition, EDL Group also wishes to cooperate with Dabaco in the field of pig farming (breeding, artificial insemination, breeding stock, etc.) and other agricultural products.
Third, representatives of livestock farmers and/or distributors of veterinary drugs and vaccines organized by EDL, who wish to learn about and witness firsthand Dabaco's research and production of the ASF vaccine, thereby gaining confidence and willingness to participate in testing and distributing Dabaco's ASF vaccine when imported into the Philippines.
Mr. Phung Van Thanh stated that the Philippines is currently very interested in African swine fever vaccines. This is because not only Vietnam but also the Philippines is a country severely affected by African swine fever.
From a total pig population of over 13 million in 2020 and earlier, due to the impact of African swine fever, the Philippine pig herd had shrunk to nearly 9 million by 2021. Increasing the herd size in the post-pandemic period has proven challenging.
Despite recognizing the serious impact of the disease, the Philippines lacks any businesses or laboratories investing in research and production of African swine fever vaccines.
Therefore, the need for African swine fever vaccines in the Philippines is more urgent than ever. The fact that Vietnamese businesses, including Dabaco Group, have successfully researched, tested, and produced an African swine fever vaccine is not only a success for Vietnam but also creates great hope and attracts the attention of not only the Government and regulatory agencies but also businesses and farm owners in the Philippines.
Recognizing this potential, the Vietnam Trade Office in the Philippines has made efforts to connect Philippine businesses/partners to open up opportunities for cooperation with Dabaco Group not only in the field of vaccines but also, more broadly, in livestock and agricultural products.
Dabaco is one of Vietnam's leading pioneers in researching and successfully producing a commercial vaccine for African Swine Fever (ASF). Simultaneously, the Group's vaccine manufacturing plant has been completed and certified with GMP-WHO standards. The successful research, testing, and production of a commercial ASF vaccine is not only a source of pride for Dabaco Group but also for Vietnam as a whole. In addition to supplying the domestic market with African swine fever vaccine, Dabaco also aims to export its products to other countries to meet disease prevention needs and enhance Vietnam's reputation internationally. |
