Son La: Industrial production increased by 13.21%.

In May 2026, Son La recorded a 13.21% increase in industrial production compared to the previous month, with the electricity production and distribution sector showing an impressive 16.93% increase.

Industry experienced double-digit growth.

According to the Report on the socio -economic situation in May and key tasks for June 2026 of the Son La Provincial People's Committee, the industrial production index in May 2026 is estimated to have increased by 13.21% compared to the previous month. Notably, the electricity production and distribution sector recorded an impressive increase of 16.93% thanks to a strong increase in electricity production.

However, compared to the same period last year, the overall industrial production index decreased by 32.96%, with the electricity production and distribution sector declining by 39.90%.

Explaining the decline in the index, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Viet, Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province, said that the 39.90% decrease in electricity production and distribution was due to lower water flow into hydropower reservoirs compared to the same period last year. This was because May of last year saw heavy rainfall, resulting in high water levels in the reservoirs. Despite this, overall for the first five months of 2026, the industrial production index increased by 10.74% compared to the same period last year.

Regarding trade and services, the positive growth momentum continues. Total retail sales of goods in May 2026 are estimated at VND 3,855 billion, an increase of 10.9% compared to the same period last year. For the first five months of the year, total retail sales are estimated at VND 19,119.3 billion, an increase of 12.9% compared to the same period. Goods circulate smoothly, supply is stable, and the needs of production, business, and consumption in the province are fully met.

Regarding exports, the value of goods in May 2026 is estimated at US$7.06 million, an increase of 18.52% compared to the same period last year, with key items being tea, cassava products, and bananas. For the first five months of the year, the cumulative export value is estimated at US$117.96 million, an increase of 15.31% compared to the same period.

Tourism recorded 445,000 visitors, with total revenue from tourism activities estimated at 255 billion VND. In particular, Son La province is actively promoting tourism development with the goal of achieving double-digit growth...

Accelerate industrial and renewable energy projects.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Viet, Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province, in June 2026, all levels and sectors will focus on implementing synchronously the tasks and solutions according to Government Resolution No. 01/NQ-CP, Son La Provincial People's Council Resolution No. 592, and Son La Provincial People's Committee Decision No. 3194 on the socio-economic development plan for 2026. In particular, Son La province identifies industrial development as a key task, aiming to complete the plan set for the entire year 2026.

Therefore, to achieve the economic growth targets as outlined in the plan, Son La province will continue to focus on directing industrial production development, closely monitoring the operations of businesses to promptly address difficulties and obstacles in production and business. In particular, it will accelerate the implementation of key industrial projects, renewable energy projects, small hydropower projects, and industrial cluster infrastructure projects in the province.

In particular, the floating solar power project on the Son La hydroelectric reservoir and the factory producing buoys and plastic products, which were inaugurated and started construction on May 18, 2026, are expected to be a driving force for attracting new industrial investment to the province.

Simultaneously, Son La province is strengthening state management of mineral resources, industrial explosives, and the investment and operation of hydropower plants; effectively carrying out appraisal, licensing, inspection, and supervision according to regulations. At the same time, it is promoting administrative reform and digital transformation in industrial management to create a favorable environment, attract investment, and promote sustainable industrial development in the province during the remaining months of 2026.

Regarding trade and services, Son La province continues to strengthen trade promotion efforts, supporting businesses and cooperatives in promoting and connecting their products for sale on e-commerce platforms; providing guidance on online sales skills and livestreaming product introductions. Simultaneously, it provides information and support to businesses and cooperatives to participate in supply-demand connection programs, trade fairs, exhibitions, and export promotion activities organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and other provinces and cities...

According to the Chairman of the Son La Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Dinh Viet, in the coming time, Son La province will continue to proactively support and resolve difficulties and obstacles in the implementation of projects. At the same time, it will strengthen efforts to attract investment in projects in areas where the province has strengths, aiming towards the set socio-economic development goals.
