Speaking at the ceremony, according to comrade Nguyen Duc Dung, Quang Nam is honored to be the homeland of Hero Nguyen Van Troi, and is very grateful and touched by the special feelings, support and love that the soldiers and people of Venezuela have given to Hero Nguyen Van Troi, to his homeland Quang Nam and to Vietnam. On behalf of the Party, government and people of Quang Nam province, comrade Nguyen Duc Dung expressed his deepest gratitude to the Caracas guerrillas.
On this occasion, according to local time, Comrade Nguyen Duc Dung and the delegation of Quang Nam province laid wreaths at the Temple of Liberator and National Hero Simón Bolivar; visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela.
As planned, on October 11 (local time), the provincial delegation will visit and work with a locality in Venezuela; visit and present gifts to a school in the capital Caracas, and attend the inauguration ceremony of the statue of hero Nguyen Van Troi.
In 1964, upon hearing that the Saigon puppet government had arrested and imprisoned Nguyen Van Troi, the Command of the National Liberation Armed Forces (FALN), a leftist guerrilla organization in Venezuela led by the PCV Party, organized a campaign to kidnap American intelligence lieutenant colonel Michael Smolen right in the capital city of Caracas to demand Troi's freedom. The image of the Caracas guerrillas has been known to generations of Vietnamese people through the poem "Remember my words" in the poetry collection "Going to battle" (1972) by To Huu: "The Caracas guerrillas, for him/Captured an American enemy in the middle of the city" .
The Nguyen Van Troi Campaign is a historic milestone in the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Venezuela; it is a symbol of solidarity and support from leftist and progressive forces in Venezuela in particular, and progressive forces in Latin America and around the world in general, for the cause of national liberation and national reunification of our people. The PSUV Party organized a ceremony to commemorate this historic event to demonstrate the importance it attaches to the relationship between the two parties and the two countries.
