Welcoming the delegation to visit and work at the National Assembly , Vice Chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Le Thu Ha stated that this is the third visit of the US Congress to Vietnam in 2024 after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The delegation's visit takes place right when the Vietnamese National Assembly is holding its 7th Session, expected to last for more than 26 days.
At this Session, legislative work is the main content, taking up nearly 2/3 of the time with 24 draft laws and draft resolutions. This number is considered the largest volume of legislative content considered at a session since the beginning of the 15th National Assembly's term.
The Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee also stated that the two sides' upgrading of relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has created momentum and opened up new space for the two countries to strengthen cooperation on all channels of the Party, State, National Assembly and People as well as all fields, including breakthrough fields such as: innovation, artificial intelligence, human resource training, semiconductor cooperation, supply chain, energy conversion...
On behalf of the Delegation, Chief of Staff Brett Horton - Assistant to House Majority Leader, Congressman Steve Scalise, said that this visit of the Delegation also aims to promote the US - Vietnam cooperative relationship to become more substantive and effective in all aspects.
Agreeing with the assessment of the Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee on the relationship between the two countries, Chief of Staff Brett Horton emphasized that through mutual visits, it is possible to see many common interests between the two countries in further developing the trade relationship between the United States and Vietnam.
The Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee emphasized that cooperation between the two countries' parliaments is an important component of the overall Vietnam-US relationship. In 2023, the two sides increased mutual visits, and Vietnam welcomed five delegations of US congressmen to Vietnam. These visits have contributed to enhancing understanding and trust between the two sides and at the same time, consolidating the interest and support within the United States for the development of bilateral relations.
The Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee hopes that US congressmen will continue to promote the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations between the two National Assemblies; study the establishment of regular dialogue mechanisms, exchange and coordination mechanisms between the two National Assemblies and their agencies; expand cooperation in various forms to help US and Vietnamese congressmen better understand the situation in each country, especially between young congressmen and congressional assistants... In addition, he suggested that the US Congress support the maintenance of stable and long-term trade relations between the two countries.
Agreeing with the Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Chief of Staff Brett Horton affirmed that Vietnam plays an extremely important role in helping to diversify the US supply chain. At the same time, he hopes that the two sides will soon reach agreements on trade, investment, tax reduction policies for agricultural products, and further increase the interest and support for US companies and businesses when investing in Vietnam...
