According to Dr. Le Xuan Bao, a specialist in Urology at Shing Mark University Medical Center: Kidney stones measuring 10mm or larger are often difficult to remove and can easily cause complications such as hydronephrosis, infection, and impaired kidney function.
To effectively prevent kidney stones, Dr. Bao advises people to drink 2-2.5 liters of water per day (preferably filtered water, limiting sugary drinks or carbonated beverages) to dilute urine and reduce the risk of crystallization and stone formation. It's also important to reduce salt intake because a high-salt diet increases calcium excretion in urine, making stone formation more likely. Maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly improve metabolism are also crucial. Avoid holding back urine as this can cause urine retention, creating conditions for stone formation.
