At this time, in the fields of Tan Doan, Trang Phai, An Son communes, Van Quan district, farmers are busy taking care of rice, corn and crops. Ms. Le Thi Tho, Ban Thi village, An Son commune shared: This spring crop, my family planted more than 7 sao of rice and 3 sao of corn. Currently, on the family's corn area, gray worms have caused minor damage; on the rice plants, golden apple snails and planthoppers have appeared. Thanks to proactive monitoring, the family has taken immediate measures to deal with the problem, combining manual methods and spraying pesticides.
Not only Ms. Tho's family, many farmers' growing areas in Van Quan district have also been affected by pests. According to the district's professional agency, golden apple snails appeared on spring rice with a density of 0.5 - 1 snail/m2, various types of planthoppers with a density of 10 - 30 snails/m2; on corn plants, spiny worms and fall armyworms appeared with a density of 0.3 - 2 snails/m2 and some types of aphids and pests with a density of 1 - 3% on chili and citrus plants.
Mr. Ha Van Thien, Director of the Agricultural Service Center (TTDVNN) of Van Quan district, said: The center has conducted inspections, notified and instructed people on how to prevent and control diseases through mass media and on the center's Fanpage; sent specialized staff in each production field to be present at the agricultural extension fair to support, answer and guide people directly. In cases where people cannot bring plant disease samples to the market, we send community agricultural extension teams to the place to advise. Since the beginning of April, the agricultural extension teams have organized 15 propaganda sessions and 8 agricultural extension fairs for over 1,500 people.
It is known that this spring crop, the total planting area of the province reached more than 48,000 hectares, of which rice was planted on 15,000 hectares, corn reached 13,000 hectares... Similar to Van Quan district, currently, in some districts in the province such as Cao Loc, Trang Dinh, Huu Lung... pests and diseases also appeared on spring crops. In which, the main disease on spring rice is rice blast with an average infected area of 0.7 hectares (an increase of 0.5 hectares compared to the same period last year). Spring corn is entering the 7-9 leaf stage, the main harmful organism is fall armyworm, with an average infected area of 0.8 hectares (a decrease of 6.7 hectares compared to the same period)...
For other spring crops such as tomatoes, peppers, melons, and tobacco, diseases such as dry tops, leaf mosaic, and downy mildew appear... According to the results of a survey of plant pests by specialized agencies, the pests on crops have a high density and low level of damage. However, this year's erratic weather, prolonged drought, and sun are ideal conditions for some pests to arise and cause damage to crops.
To ensure that spring crops grow well, the Centers for Agricultural Extension in districts and cities have sent staff to regularly monitor the area and forecast pests on crops, and at the same time, guide people on measures to prevent and care for crops. Thereby, all pests and diseases that appear have been and are being prevented, and basic crops are growing and developing well.
Ms. Dinh Thi Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: Spring crop is one of the main planting seasons that all levels and functional branches pay attention to and direct the implementation. To ensure good crop growth, the department has directed specialized departments to strengthen the investigation of pests and diseases on crops, regularly predict and forecast for people to proactively take timely and effective preventive measures, not allowing epidemics to develop.
It is forecasted that in the coming time, there will be many extreme weather phenomena such as hot sun, high temperature, thunderstorms, creating favorable conditions for many types of pests to arise and cause harm such as: small leaf rollers, brown planthoppers, white-backed planthoppers; cutworms, thrips, small spiders of all kinds, late blight, green wilt, yellow wilt, white mold root wilt... causing harm to rice, spring corn and other crops. The authorities recommend that people continue to closely monitor weather developments, proactively visit fields regularly to detect and promptly prevent pests on crops. At the same time, proactively notify specialized agencies and local authorities when detecting high-density pests to avoid widespread spread, thereby ensuring the productivity and quality of this year's spring crop.
