Established since 1995, the Phu Thuy Ward Elderly Association, Phan Thiet City has 13 neighborhood branches and 61 association groups. With a total of 1,518 members in a total permanent population of 28,661 people. Mr. Pham Xuan Khu - Chairman of the Phu Thuy Ward Elderly Association said that over the past 5 years, the Phu Thuy Ward Elderly Association has carried out well the patriotic emulation movements "Old age - Bright example". Including the movement to protect and care for the health of the elderly, improve the material life of the elderly... take care of the cultural and spiritual life of the elderly. Specifically, every year the Association regularly organizes free medical examination and treatment consultation programs for the elderly on the occasion of the "Traditional Day of the Elderly in Vietnam"; "Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam and International Day of the Elderly. Periodic health check-ups for members, giving 125 gifts, amounting to 300,000 VND/elderly person in difficult circumstances.
In addition, the neighborhood chapters have also mobilized money and gifts from benefactors and the chapter fund to give hundreds of gifts to members in difficult circumstances. Notably, in the first 6 months of 2025 alone, the chapter has mobilized members and benefactors to contribute more than 70 million VND to charity activities and elderly care in the chapter. This is also one of the leading chapters in implementing the Project to replicate the model of the "Intergenerational Self-Help" Club according to Decision No. 1533/QD-TTg dated August 2, 2016 and the Project to replicate the model of the "Intergenerational Self-Help" Club until 2025 according to Decision No. 1336/QD-TTg dated August 31, 2020 of the Prime Minister .
Mr. Nguyen Van Nhi - Head of the Association of the Elderly in Ward 6 said that the "Intergenerational Self-Help Club" is a model launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, aiming to create opportunities for the elderly to improve their material and spiritual lives, access knowledge about health care and enhance the role and contribution of the elderly to society. In recent times, this model has been deployed by the Associations at all levels in the branches, the Association of the Elderly in Ward 6 established the model. Currently, the model has 50 members, of which the Executive Board has 5 people, operating in different areas such as capital mobilization, lending, health care activities and monthly and quarterly cultural performances to improve the quality of life for the elderly in general.
In addition, the elderly in Phu Thuy ward promote their role as shining examples in participating in "Building new rural areas and civilized urban areas", maintaining political security, social order and safety, reconciling disputes and conflicts in the community, participating in building conventions, village rules and supervising the implementation of grassroots democracy regulations, fighting against corruption, bureaucracy, negativity, practicing thrift and fighting waste. Support and create favorable conditions for the elderly who have the need and ability to work or change to suitable jobs. Support technology transfer, product consumption and investment capital for production development for the elderly who directly produce and do business in the movement of excellent elderly production and business.
With the achieved results, the Phu Thuy Ward Elderly Association in general and the elderly - the "big tree" generation of the ward in particular - not only have the merit of giving birth, raising and educating their children and grandchildren, but are also exemplary pioneers in all activities and movements, making many positive contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. Therefore, the Association received a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for its achievements in the emulation movement "Old age - Bright example", contributing to the local socio-economic development in the period of 2021 - 2025.
Mr. Pham Xuan Khu emphasized: “After 5 years of implementing the emulation movement “Old age, bright example”, Phu Thuy Elderly Association has drawn some lessons, that is, building an annual development plan for the Elderly Association at the grassroots level needs to have specific targets, allocated to the neighborhood branches. Mobilizing members needs to be persistent, flexible, and suitable to the characteristics of each group of elderly people. Improving the quality of activities in neighborhood branches, especially taking care of members. Focusing on building and replicating advanced models and typical examples in the branches. Annually, there will be a preliminary and final review to evaluate activities, draw experience and make appropriate adjustments to the Association's work in some neighborhoods that still face difficulties in organization and personnel...”.
