- Applying modern technology towards green development
With a total designed capacity of 2×620MW, Vinh Tan 1 is the first plant in Vietnam to use supercritical coal-fired boiler technology, an advanced technological solution to improve power generation efficiency, save fuel, and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The use of domestic anthracite coal contributes to proactive supply and optimizes operating costs. Right from the design stage, the plant integrates modern environmental treatment systems such as desulfurization (FGD), nitrogen oxide reduction (DeNOx), and electrostatic precipitator (ESP). The emission monitoring system operates automatically, directly connected to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Binh Thuan, strictly complying with domestic and international environmental standards. Aiming at the green enterprise model " Advanced - Reliable - Green ", Vinh Tan 1 pioneers in applying clean technology, associated with environmental protection. The factory effectively operates an advanced exhaust gas treatment system, emission targets are strictly controlled, maintained at levels lower than regulations. In two years (2023, 2024), the factory was recognized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment as meeting the National Green Environment Criteria; recognized for pollution control and promoting cleaner production.
After nearly 7 years of commercial operation, Vinh Tan 1 BOT Thermal Power Plant has generated more than 50 billion kWh to the national grid, contributing an average of about 8 billion kWh per year, effectively solving the power shortage in the southern region of the country. Vinh Tan 1 Power Company Limited, the owner of the plant, has been repeatedly awarded by Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) for its outstanding achievements in safe and effective management and operation. The plant's operations have created more than 500 jobs, attracting many local workers with relatively high incomes compared to the regional average.
- Community engagement, environmental friendliness
Vinh Tan 1 Power Company Limited always focuses on fulfilling its social responsibilities to the local community. Since its operation, the company has contributed more than 200 million USD to the budget, an average of about 30 million USD per year. In 2023, the enterprise was commended by the Ministry of Finance for its efforts to overcome difficulties and make many positive contributions to the state budget from 2020-2022. The company has implemented many social security activities such as building computer classrooms, medical centers, community rooms, upgrading rural roads, etc., with a total support fund of more than 410,000 USD. Although these projects are not large in scale, they have practical and long-term value, contributing to improving the quality of life of people in the area where the factory is located.
With a development orientation based on modern technology, safe operation, community engagement, and environmental responsibility, Vinh Tan 1 BOT Thermal Power Plant has become a typical model for sustainable energy development in Vietnam. In the coming time, the plant is expected to continue to play a leading role in the strategy of developing the electricity industry in a green, clean, efficient, and environmentally friendly direction.
