The ao dai is deeply intertwined with the lives of Vietnamese people, representing the essence and soul of Vietnamese women. Women wear the ao dai frequently at events, holidays, festivals, weddings, and today, it is a popular choice for many female civil servants, teachers, students, and university students to wear to work and school.

It was a typical workday for the female officials of the provincial Social Insurance agency, but today, instead of wearing their office attire, they chose to wear the traditional Vietnamese ao dai. In the flowing blue ao dai, everyone seemed more graceful, elegant, and gentle. Striking poses and taking beautiful photos before work, they all expressed their love for the Vietnamese ao dai because of its modesty, gentleness, and refined elegance. The ao dai suits all body types, so when they wear it, they feel confident and proud. Therefore, for important events, the ao dai is always the best choice...

To honor the ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress), in recent years, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union has launched the "Ao Dai Week" to celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th. This event aims to contribute to honoring the value of the ao dai, fostering love, pride, and responsibility in preserving and promoting the heritage of the ao dai within the community. It also serves as an opportunity to introduce Vietnamese culture, country, and people in general, and Vietnamese women in particular, to a wide audience both domestically and internationally.

Since the "Ao Dai Week" in 2024, women in Binh Thuan have enthusiastically responded, wearing ao dai to work, participating in cultural and artistic events, and hoping that this will become an annual activity contributing to enhancing the role and status of women in the new era.

Ms. Tran Thi Dinh Huong, President of the Ham Tan District Women's Union, said: "On the morning of March 1st, 2024, all officials and staff of the Ham Tan District Women's Union proudly wore traditional ao dai dresses at work. Local branches also actively implemented many activities in response to 'Ao Dai Week' from March 1st to 8th, such as posting photos of themselves wearing ao dai on Zalo, Facebook, and the Union's fanpage, holding folk dance exchanges, ao dai fashion shows, and launching a campaign to donate ao dai to women in difficult circumstances… thereby promoting the role and responsibility of women's unions at all levels in participating in the preservation of traditional cultural values."

In many agencies and units under the Provincial Union of Civil Servants, female union members and employees chose to wear the traditional ao dai dress on Monday mornings and during activities commemorating International Women's Day (March 8th). Furthermore, grassroots unions continued to participate in the "Giving Ao Dai, Sharing Love, Preserving Traditional Beauty" program, now in its second year, launched by the Standing Committee of the Provincial Federation of Labor, for female workers and children of workers in difficult circumstances, and workers in industrial zones and mountainous areas.

The ao dai has become a symbol of Vietnamese women's clothing.

First appearing during the reign of Lord Nguyen Phuc Khoat in the South, around 1744, the Giao Linh áo dài (traditional Vietnamese dress) was wide, with the bodice made from four pieces of fabric, reaching to the ankles, slit on both sides, and featuring long sleeves with wide cuffs. It was worn with a black skirt underneath and a fabric belt over it. Over time, the áo dài has undergone modernization and adaptation to suit contemporary trends, but it generally retains its original essence and value. Whenever a woman wears an áo dài, she exudes a graceful, elegant, yet magnificent and sophisticated aura unmatched by any other garment.

If Korea has the Hanbok, Japan has the Kimono... then Vietnam is known for its graceful Ao Dai. The word "Ao Dai" has been included in the Oxford dictionary and is explained as a type of Vietnamese women's clothing with two long panels, front and back, reaching the ankles, covering long trousers.
