PWC: 89% of business representatives have or are planning to commit to ESG in the next 2-4 years

(HTV) - The 2025 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Practice Progress Survey Report by PWC Vietnam shows that 89% of business representatives participating in the survey have or are planning to commit to ESG in the next 2-4 years, a significant increase compared to 80% in 2022.

The proportion of businesses that do not have an ESG plan has nearly halved to 11%. The report also found that more than half of businesses have implemented ESG commitments. However, the speed of ESG adoption varies across business types. Foreign-invested enterprises (FDI) continue to lead the way, with 71% having implemented ESG commitments, mainly due to compliance with global standards. The journey from awareness to implementation of ESG initiatives remains challenging.

For an export-oriented economy like Vietnam, meeting international ESG standards is a prerequisite.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam - ESG Consulting Services Leader, Deputy General Director of PWC Vietnam: "In terms of expertise, the staff or the team of each company does not have a systematic method in identifying ESG opportunities and risks to incorporate them into strategic orientation, target orientation and develop plans and initiatives to deploy, practice, measure and report".

Mr. Xavier Potier - Deputy General Director of Risk Management Consulting Services, PWC said: "In Europe, regulatory agencies closely monitor ESG-related activities. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, ESG is still an emerging topic. In my opinion, risk management plays a clear role in supporting the achievement of ESG goals. Because when it comes to risk management, it means identifying and handling risks related to the set goals. Applying principles and systematic approaches to risk management will help organizations get closer and faster to realizing ESG goals".

For an export-oriented economy like Vietnam, meeting international ESG standards is a prerequisite to maintaining competitiveness. Vietnamese enterprises need to restructure their business models to reduce carbon emissions, digitalize and move towards sustainable growth; at the same time, they must integrate ESG into core operations and harmonize with sustainable development goals at both global and national levels.
