Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên25/01/2024

This information was provided by the District 1 People's Committee at the regular socio -economic press conference of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the afternoon of January 25th. The district is organizing a peak period of intensified efforts to ensure urban order during the Lunar New Year holiday, focusing on key areas such as Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, Bach Dang Wharf Park, and the area surrounding Notre Dame Cathedral.

The People's Committee of District 1 announced that it will strictly handle acts of littering in public places, parking vehicles on the road and sidewalks; beggars and street vendors harassing tourists; and performances involving human statues, fire-breathing, and the use of skateboards and electric balance bikes that do not ensure safety for residents and tourists on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street.

This year, District 1 is organizing the 2024 Tet Street Corner Contest with the theme "Spring of Connection, Tet of Love," with over 100 Tet corners and 5 spring streets expected to be featured. This model previously won two Ho Chi Minh City Innovation Awards in 2023.

In addition, the district also organized the 2024 Year of the Dragon Tet Folk Culture Festival at the small island area in front of Ben Thanh Market, with activities for locals and tourists to experience traditional Tet festivals and Southern Vietnamese culture.

As the central district of Ho Chi Minh City, District 1 also hosts major city-level events such as the Nguyen Hue Flower Street, the Book Street Festival, the Spring Flower Festival and Tet Flower Market, fireworks displays, and spectacular art performances to celebrate the New Year.

Tourist destinations expected to attract a large number of visitors include Ben Thanh Market, Ho Chi Minh City Post Office, Notre Dame Cathedral , Nguyen Hue Flower Street, Bach Dang Park, Bui Vien Walking Street, and a system of shopping malls and museums.

The People's Committee of District 1 advises residents and tourists not to litter in public places, to behave courteously in public; not to park vehicles on the road or sidewalk illegally; and not to buy from street vendors to avoid the risk of purchasing food of unknown origin or that does not meet hygiene standards.

Additionally, local authorities advise people not to give money to beggars, fire-breathers, or unlicensed performers such as statues, musicians, singers, and dancers; and not to take photos with costumed characters to avoid being scammed.
