The moment a foreign man threw a chair and shattered the glass of a cafe on Le Hong Phong Street, Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang City, late on May 29th.

On the evening of May 31st, a cafe on Le Hong Phong Street, Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang City, issued a statement regarding an incident on the night of May 29th where a foreign tourist vandalized numerous machines, collectibles, and other customers' property.

According to information from the restaurant, at approximately 11:45 PM on May 29th, a foreign man entered the restaurant but did not order anything. Staff approached him to order at the counter, but he remained seated. Later, staff brought the menu to his table to assist him.

During the interaction, a male diner sitting nearby who was able to speak English assisted the staff in communicating with the foreign customer. Both sides used their phones to translate the conversation.

However, the man unexpectedly took the customer's phone and refused to return it. Despite repeated requests from the owner, he continued to hold onto the phone, reading messages and browsing personal content. When reminded that the phone was private property and asked to return it, he remained uncooperative.

Noticing something unusual, the customer asked the staff to call security for assistance. However, before the staff could intervene, the foreign man suddenly stood up, took off his shirt, smashed his phone on the ground, and told everyone in the shop, "You have 10 seconds to leave the store."

The first floor of the cafe was in ruins after a foreign man caused a disturbance late on May 29th.

Later, this person began destroying various items in the bar, including bar equipment, decorations, tempered glass doors, and personal belongings of customers present at the time, such as laptops and phones. The incident prevented many customers sitting on the second and third floors from leaving the bar immediately.

According to the store representative, police arrived at the scene about 5 minutes after the incident occurred. At that time, the man tried to escape by running to the second floor, got into a scuffle with some customers, and allegedly choked a young man.

After about 2-3 minutes, the authorities managed to subdue the man. At around 0:30 AM on May 30th, the man was taken to the police station for questioning. According to the restaurant, during the questioning, he was uncooperative and acted aggressively, shouting and resisting arrest.

The restaurant representative asserted that throughout the entire incident, there was no prior conflict between the staff and the foreign man. The incident stemmed from the man's behavior towards another customer in the restaurant before escalating to vandalism of customers' property and the store.

Following the incident, the restaurant received many messages of support and offers of assistance from the community, including many foreigners. However, the owner decided not to accept any monetary or in-kind donations.

Due to the extent of the damage exceeding expectations, the restaurant will remain closed for another 1-2 days to address the issues before reopening. A representative from the restaurant expressed gratitude to the community for their concern and support, and hopes to welcome customers back soon.

The Hai Chau Ward Police said the man who vandalized the property is an Australian national. Initial investigations indicate he exhibited signs of mental instability at the time of the incident. The unit has summoned all relevant parties for questioning, preserved the scene for forensic examination, and is continuing to investigate the cause and clarify the incident.
