On September 19, at the US Capitol in Washington DC, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with leaders of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the occasion of the Prime Minister's attendance at the High-level General Debate of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the United States.
The meeting was attended by Senator Bob Menendez, Chairman of the Committee, Senator Jim Risch, Ranking Member of the Committee, and many senators who are members of the Foreign Relations Committee.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam considers the United States a partner of strategic importance and the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework for peace , cooperation and sustainable development during President Biden's recent visit to Vietnam opened a new phase for enhancing extensive and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in all areas, including cooperation between the two countries' National Assemblies.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked and appreciated the support of the US Senate in general, and the Foreign Affairs Committee in particular, for promoting Vietnam - US relations in recent times, including cooperation in resolving war consequences.
The congressmen affirmed that the Vietnam-US relationship has always received bipartisan support, and agreed that the two sides need to continue to strengthen cooperation in key areas.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the support and cooperation of the two countries' National Assemblies play an important role in concretizing new frameworks and areas of cooperation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming time.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his hope that the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee would support the two countries in further strengthening economic-trade-investment relations, promoting cooperation in science-technology, innovation, semiconductor cooperation, energy conversion, climate change response, and increasing support for Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of war.
In a friendly atmosphere, Senator Bob Menendez, Senator Jim Risch and other senators expressed their delight at the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the United States, which is the basis for the two sides to continue to develop the relationship further, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries. The senators highly appreciated the socio-economic achievements that Vietnam has achieved in recent times, becoming a country with an increasingly important role and voice in the region.
In the spirit of the Vietnam-US relationship always receiving bipartisan support, the congressmen agreed that the two sides need to continue to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as economics - trade, high technology, education and training, human resource development, climate change response, addressing the consequences of war and people-to-people exchange.
The two sides also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including agreeing on promoting ASEAN's central role, promoting the ASEAN-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and further strengthening the Mekong-US Partnership.
