Implementing the Elderly Health Care Project for the period 2017 - 2025, every year, Cai Lay District Health Center coordinates with the District Elderly Association and communes and towns to propagate, advise, and raise community awareness of the responsibility to care for, support, and promote the role of the elderly. In 2025, the District Health Center coordinates with the health station and the Elderly Association of 16 communes and towns to organize health check-ups at the station for more than 2,300 people aged 70 to 71 and health check-ups at home for nearly 550 lonely and frail elderly people. The elderly are checked for blood pressure, heart rate, blood sugar, eyes, ears, nose, throat, ultrasound... to screen for chronic diseases. Doctors also advise on nutrition, note in monitoring records, manage health abnormalities and refer to treatment facilities if necessary.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hien, Hiep Ngai Hamlet, Hiep Duc Commune shared: “Most of the elderly have at least one chronic disease. The health check-ups and consultations organized by the District Health Center in coordination with the Elderly Association have created conditions for the elderly to screen for common diseases. I think the health check-up program for the elderly in the locality is very practical. Doctors have directly examined and advised on a reasonable diet and physical exercise to prevent diseases.”

To improve the spiritual life of the elderly, the District Elderly Association and 16 communes and towns coordinate to organize exciting cultural, artistic and sports activities. Many clubs, teams and groups have been established and maintained, becoming useful playgrounds for the elderly to participate. The whole district has 81 Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs, Fitness Clubs, Poetry Clubs, Amateur Music Clubs, and Bonsai Clubs... with more than 2,100 members. The activities have created a joyful and exciting atmosphere, becoming healthy playgrounds for the elderly.
Every year, the District Elderly Association coordinates to organize competitions and performances, creating conditions for the elderly to exchange, strengthen solidarity, and enrich their spiritual life. Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhanh, Hoa An Hamlet, Ngu Hiep Commune said: “I have participated in the Physical Education Club in Ngu Hiep Commune for more than 10 years. Club members not only practice together to improve their health but also share about life, together maintain healthy habits, good for health. The exercises help the body to be flexible, prevent many diseases”.
Cai Lay district currently has more than 20,600 elderly people participating in the Association's activities (reaching 90.53% of the elderly in the area). In recent times, Cai Lay district has strengthened the leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels on elderly health care, promoted propaganda, mobilization, and changed community awareness to participate in elderly health care.
The Elderly Association at all levels in Cai Lay district coordinates with the Health Center, agencies, departments, and organizations to promote the elderly and their families to pay attention to health issues, conduct regular health check-ups, and create a movement for the whole society to participate in taking care of the elderly's health. At the same time, focus on improving knowledge and skills in self-care and increasing access to primary health care services for the elderly; replicate cultural, artistic, and sports models, creating a healthy playground for the elderly.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tu, Chairman of the Elderly Association of Cai Lay District, said: “Health care for the elderly is an important task to improve the quality of the population. In addition to coordinating to organize health screening programs for members and the elderly, the Elderly Association at all levels in the district also promotes counseling and guidance for the elderly on nutrition, self-care skills, and prevention of common diseases. The Association also improves the effectiveness of clubs, teams, and groups, creating a healthy playground and connecting the elderly to live happily, healthily, and usefully.”
