Units of the Russian Armed Forces' Central Group of Forces (RFAF) have made significant advances within the city of Pokrovsk. According to reports from the scene, fighting is currently taking place in the area of Shosseynaya Street. This means that the southeastern part of the city and the Ukrainian units stationed there have been isolated from the rest of the settlement. In view of the current situation, the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Pokrovsk, as well as the transfer of reserves to the breakthrough area, were included in the plans of the RFAF General Staff. Immediately after the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Syrsky, began making decisions on the deployment of reserves to Pokrovsk, the Zemledeliye remote minelaying systems, were used by the RFAF engineering troops.
The Zemledeliye minelaying system has been used before, especially near Avdiivka, in combination with drones and artillery to destroy Ukrainian reserves, including brigades organized to “NATO standards” equipped with Western-made weapons. At present, it is difficult to assess whether the minelaying in the corridors, which are supposed to be the lines of maneuver of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU), has a blocking or warning effect. But the use of an automated minelaying system (ISDM), could cut off the AFU’s ability to move quickly and create chaos, as happened in the 2023 and subsequent offensive near Avdiivka. In the context of the ongoing RFAF offensive north of Pokrovsk, where Russian troops are attempting to encircle the Pokrovsk-Mirnograd concentration area, an advance into the city itself could be a decisive step in establishing control over the city of Pokrovsk. Meanwhile, north of Pokrovsk, AFU units were unable to localize the RFAF breakthrough, while live information from the battlefield said Russian artillery was accurately targeting AFU reserves advancing to counterattack positions.
Currently, the AFU Commander-in-Chief, General Syrsky, is desperately trying to stabilize the situation, by sending more reinforcements to the area, in order to restore the lost areas. However, the AFU reserve forces have encountered a net of fire, covering the entire area of RFAF. So far, all the Ukrainian side has managed to do is slightly slow down the Russian advance in the Dobropillya area. However, the reserve forces assigned to this task are being attacked by Russian artillery and drones almost as soon as they approach the attack line. This shows that the RFAF General Staff has promptly transferred additional reserves and resources to the area east of Dobropillya. Now the AFU is faced with the formation of a new front north of Pokrovsk. This is certainly inevitable. On the afternoon of August 15, the Russian Ministry of Defense summarized the results of the week of fighting, with the most successful being the RFAF breakthrough in the direction of Pokrovsk, although there were successes in other directions as well. The AFU is now mainly retreating, accepting the loss of territory. The only direction where the AFU is still counterattacking is the Stepnogorsk area in the Zaporizhia region. Even in Sumy, the AFU is exhausted. The Russian Defense Ministry said that the RFAF Northern Group continues to advance in both the Sumy and Kharkov areas. The pace of the advance is slow, the enemy resistance here is fierce, and fighting is fierce. However, due to problems in other directions, some units have been withdrawn, leading to the AFU also going on the defensive.
In the Sumy direction, the AFU is still trying to counterattack, but not as strongly. The Western Group of the RFAF is advancing in both the Kupyansk and Krasno-Limansk directions. On the first day, there were battles for the city of Kupyansk, on the second day, the offensive is underway towards Krasny Liman. There are movements in Torskoye, as well as in the Serebryanskoye forest. The RFAF Southern Group has advanced near Seversk, begun to encircle Konstantinovka and has begun to advance from Chasov Yar. The village of Shcherbinovka near the Kaban-Byk reservoir, which was considered a stronghold of the AFU northwest of Toretsk, has now been completely overrun by Russian troops. The most important victory of the week was that the RFAF Center Army Group broke through the front in the direction of Pokrovsk near Dobropolye and penetrated 18 km into the AFU defense line, forcing the enemy to urgently transfer reserves there.
At the same time, Pokrovsk is surrounded by battles within the city. At the same time, some units of the Vostok Group are advancing towards the Dnipropetrovsk region. Over the past week, units of the RFAF's Center Group and Vostok Group have overrun Yablonivka, Lunacharskoye, Suvorovo and Nikanorovka in Donetsk.
