Quang Hai gives reason for not attending the match with MU

According to information from the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), the Vietnamese team will have 4 players in the ASEAN All-Stars squad to participate in the friendly match with Manchester United Club, taking place on May 28, 2025 at Bukit Jalil Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The four players called up include: defender Do Duy Manh (Hanoi FC), midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc (Phu Dong Ninh Binh), midfielder Nguyen Hai Long (Hanoi FC) and defender Nguyen Van Vi (Nam Dinh Blue Steel).

Previously, according to the initial announcement, AFF selected 3 players of the Vietnamese team, Duy Manh, Hoang Duc and Quang Hai, for the ASEAN All-Stars squad. However, due to the tight schedule of matches at the club level, especially the final match of the Southeast Asian Club Championship - Shopee Cup 2024/25, midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai (Hanoi Police Club) asked to withdraw to focus on important goals with his home team.

As a replacement, Mr. Kim Sang Sik - Head Coach of the Vietnam National Team and also Head Coach of the ASEAN All-Stars Team, proposed to call up midfielder Nguyen Hai Long, who is in impressive form and scored the decisive goal in the second leg of the AFF Cup 2024 final. In addition, defender Nguyen Van Vi was also called up thanks to his excellent performances for the national team, especially in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

The match between ASEAN All-Stars and Manchester United is part of the Maybank Challenge Cup, which raises funds to support the YASA charity in Malaysia.

The match will take place on 28 May 2025 at Bukit Jalil Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The ASEAN All-Stars squad will consist of top players selected from all 12 AFF Member Associations.
