Over time, many Cham tower relics in Quang Nam province have degraded, some of which have been seriously damaged, almost becoming ruins. Faced with this reality, Quang Nam province has focused on devoting resources to investing in the restoration and renovation of degraded Cham towers, thereby achieving the “dual” goal of both preserving and serving the sustainable development of cultural tourism in the locality.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, said that up to now, Quang Nam province has been implementing many projects to restore, renovate and preserve Cham towers in the province. Notably, at the My Son Temple Relic Site (Duy Xuyen district), which was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage in 1999, many key projects have been implemented to restore and renovate, including: an investment project to urgently preserve and renovate a number of items in the E and F My Son towers in the national target program; a cooperation project with the America Express organization sponsored through the World Heritage Fund together with the Institute of Archaeology to conduct two excavations (in 2002 and 2005) to clear the Khe The stream flowing between area A and areas B, C, D, to prevent landslides in group A towers; The tripartite cooperation project of UNESCO - Vietnam - Italy on "Presentation and training on international standards for the conservation of My Son G tower group" has undergone 3 stages of restoration and embellishment from 2003-2013; the restoration project of tower E7; the restoration project in cooperation with the Indian Government to restore the K, H, A towers with a funding of more than 64 billion VND (phase 2016-2022).

“The restoration and renovation of the tower groups at My Son Temple Complex in recent times have all been in compliance with the provisions of the Law on Cultural Heritage, UNESCO regulations and related documents. Thanks to that, the collapse of the component relics has been prevented, contributing to promoting the value of the relics, creating tourism products, destinations for sightseeing and research, contributing to the socio -economic development of the locality”, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong shared. In addition to My Son Temple Complex, Quang Nam province also has many famous Cham towers and tower groups, including Dong Duong Buddhist Temple Relic Site (Thang Binh district). Over time and war, up to now, Dong Duong Buddhist Temple Relic Site only has the ruins of Sang Tower. Therefore, the restoration and renovation of Sang Tower ruins is an urgent problem. According to a leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, the project to preserve, restore, reinforce and promote the value of Sang Tower in the special national relic of Dong Duong Buddhist Institute is being submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for appraisal according to regulations. The project has a scale including: Exposing the ice surface; excavating and conducting archaeological research in the area around the foot of the tower with an area of about 500m2; implementing conservation interventions in the area around the foot of the tower with an area of about 225m2; repairing and preventing landslides of the existing tower gate body; repairing and restoring the foundation around the tower, restoring the main door steps; repairing and restoring the 2 side doors, restoring the side steps; preventing termites; preserving and reinforcing the brick surface; treating weeds that have invaded the original brick wall and related auxiliary items. The total investment of the project is 12 billion VND, assigned to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province as the investor. "After receiving the appraisal opinion of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, we will implement the next steps according to regulations," Mr. Hong shared. According to the leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, regarding the Cham Bang An tower (Dien Ban town), the province also has a project to preserve, restore and promote the value of the Cham Bang An tower relic, which is being submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for appraisal with a total project investment of nearly 9 billion VND. Regarding the Cham Chien Dan tower relic site (Phu Ninh district), the project to preserve, restore and promote the value of the South tower of the Cham Chien Dan tower relic site was approved by the People's Committee of Quang Nam province in 2021. The project has a total investment of nearly 5.5 billion VND and was completed by the end of 2023. In addition, also at the Cham Chien Dan tower relic site, there is a project to preserve, restore and promote the value of the North tower and the Middle tower. This project is being submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for appraisal, with a total investment of nearly 17 billion VND. Regarding the Khuong My Cham Tower Relic Site (Nui Thanh District), the project to preserve, restore and promote the value of the North Tower and the Middle Tower was approved by the People's Committee of Quang Nam Province in 2018 with a total investment of nearly 12.6 billion VND. The project was assigned to the Quang Nam Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board as the investor and was completed by the end of 2022. In addition, the project to preserve, restore and promote the value of the South Tower of the Khuong My Cham Tower Relic Site was approved by the People's Committee of Quang Nam Province in late 2021 with a total investment of nearly 6 billion VND; assigned to the Quang Nam Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board as the investor and is being implemented in accordance with regulations. According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, the continued investment in the restoration and renovation of Cham towers in the coming time (South tower of Khuong My Cham tower group; North tower, Middle tower of Chien Dan Cham tower group; Bang An Cham tower and Sang tower of Dong Duong Buddhist Institute special national relic) will promptly prevent collapse, contributing to enhancing the long-term stability of the relic structures of the remaining Cham towers in the province. Thereby preserving, maintaining and promoting the value of the relics; creating a destination for sightseeing and research, contributing to the socio -economic development of the locality.
According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, there are currently 5 groups of Cham towers and towers in the province. Specifically, there are the tower group belonging to My Son Temple Complex (Duy Xuyen district) with about 71 relics and ruins; Chien Dan Cham tower group (Phu Ninh district) with 3 towers (North tower, Middle tower, South tower); Khuong My Cham tower group (Nui Thanh district) with 3 towers (North tower, Middle tower, South tower); Bang An Cham tower (Dien Ban town) with 1 tower; Dong Duong Buddhist Institute (Thang Binh district) currently has the ruins of Sang tower.
