According to the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ngai city, through review, it shows thateducational institutions are still short of about 100 teachers for the new school year 2024-2025.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ngai city, said that despite being supplemented with additional staff every year, as well as receiving teachers transferred from districts and towns in the province, the city has not yet overcome the shortage of teachers.

To overcome difficulties for the new school year, the city's Department of Education and Training is completing procedures to receive 45 teachers and staff. Of these, 5 are preschool teachers, 25 are primary school teachers and staff, and 15 are secondary school teachers.

"Teacher shortages often occur at preschools and primary schools in coastal communes. The Department is recruiting teachers to supplement the schools that are lacking to ensure the teaching plan for the new school year," said Mr. Hung.

The mountainous district of Tra Bong also lacks more than 100 teachers, mainly at the preschool and primary levels. The large shortage of teachers at these two levels will greatly affect the implementation of the new General Education program because schools cannot guarantee two sessions per day.

Mountainous schools are often short of teachers because after a few years of work, teachers ask to be transferred to the plains.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thai, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ngai province, according to statistics, Quang Ngai province lacks about 900 teachers for the new school year 2024-2025. To solve the teacher shortage, in addition to contracting additional teachers, the sector encourages schools to assign teachers to teach inter-school, and transfer teachers from schools with surplus to schools with shortage.

Mr. Thai said that this is a solution that has been implemented by many schools in the province in recent years, partly solving the problem of local teacher surplus and shortage. However, the above solutions all have limitations, especially in large mountainous districts, where inter-school teaching faces many difficulties.

"Contract teachers will not be secure and have limited responsibilities in their work, affecting the quality of education. Short-term contract teachers also find it difficult to monitor the quality of students in order to have appropriate adjustment methods in the teaching process," Mr. Thai emphasized.

Mr. Ta Cong Dung, Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Ngai province, said that the department has sent an official dispatch requesting the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province to have a plan to recruit teachers in 2024 with 727 positions.

However, despite recruiting enough teachers as planned, it is still not enough to meet the demand for teachers for schools. Therefore, the Department is drafting a long-term plan to overcome the shortage of teachers in the province.
