Quang Ninh officially has its 5th city directly under the provincial administration.

On the morning of November 1st, Quang Ninh province announced the decision to establish Dong Trieu City by upgrading Dong Trieu town and the decision to merge four commune-level localities.

This morning (November 1st), the Dong Trieu City Party Committee held a conference to announce the decision of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee on the establishment of the Dong Trieu City Party Committee and the decision of the City Party Committee on the establishment of the Duc Chinh Ward Party Committee, Viet Dan Commune Party Committee, and the Party Committees of the four communes that have been upgraded to wards.

At the conference, the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee presented the decision of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee on the establishment of the Dong Trieu City Party Committee, based on all 48 grassroots party branches and party members of the former town.

The city Party Committee has announced decisions to establish, appoint, and transfer Party committee positions in Binh Khe, Yen Duc, Duc Chinh, Thuy An, and Binh Duong wards, and to merge Viet Dan and Tan Viet communes, as well as the Party branches of the People's Procuracy and the People's Court of the city…

After 9 years since its establishment as a town, Dong Trieu has strived to achieve its planning targets, population growth, and especially socio -economic development goals, aiming to become a type III urban area by 2020.

During the period from 2021-2025, Dong Trieu mobilized 27,500 billion VND from the state budget and socialized capital to invest in the comprehensive upgrading of transportation, technical, urban infrastructure, water supply and drainage systems, and to improve the quality of life for its people.

The transportation infrastructure of the young city of Dong Trieu has been creating regional and inter-regional connections, effectively meeting the socio-economic development requirements of the locality.

On September 28, 2024, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly passed a Resolution on the establishment of Dong Trieu City, which officially came into effect on November 1, 2024. This result reflects the unwavering efforts and determination of the entire Party Committee and people of Dong Trieu.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Trieu City, shared: "The establishment of Dong Trieu City and its new wards and communes is a source of joy and pride for the military and people of Dong Trieu, creating new momentum for socio-economic development and contributing to the development of the province in particular and the entire Red River Delta region in general."

Along with Ha Long City, Cam Pha, Uong Bi, and Mong Cai, the upgrading of Dong Trieu Town to a city demonstrates the strong development of Quang Ninh in recent years.
