Few would have imagined that amidst the historical relics of Quang Tri province, there exists a landscape reminiscent of autumn in temperate countries. This is the maple forest in Huong Phung commune, a pristine yet captivating destination every year-end.

The beauty of the changing seasons in the maple forest.

Located at kilometer 13 of the Ho Chi Minh Highway, in Huong Phung commune, this forest is home to the fragrant maple tree, also known locally as the "sau sau" tree. From November to January each year, the entire forest undergoes a spectacular transformation. The green foliage gradually turns to shades of yellow, orange, and then deep red, creating a vibrant natural landscape.

According to Vo Tat Huy, a local resident, this is the most beautiful moment of the year for the forest, attracting many photographers and nature-loving tourists to capture rare images in Central Vietnam.

A unique experience: Paddling a boat through the forest.

The most distinctive feature of Huong Phung mangrove forest is its location right next to a hydroelectric reservoir. At the end of the year, when the reservoir's water level is at its highest, the water overflows into the forest, submerging more than half of the trees. This transforms the area into a unique mangrove forest unlike any other.

Visitors can rent boats or stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) to venture deep into the forest. The experience of slowly gliding across the calm water, admiring the colorful foliage reflected on the lake's surface, and breathing in the fresh air is an activity not to be missed. The tranquil atmosphere, with only the gentle sound of paddles and rustling leaves, provides a feeling of absolute peace and relaxation.

Experience exploring the maple forest.

Despite gaining more recognition, this area remains relatively unspoiled and lacks professional tourism services. For a fulfilling trip, visitors should keep the following points in mind:

The ideal time

The best time to see the trees change color is from November to January. However, this is also the rainy and chilly season in Quang Tri. Tourists should check the weather forecast and choose dry days with mild sunshine to get the best photos and ensure safety.

Necessary preparations

Since there are no shops or services nearby, you should bring your own snacks and drinks. Warm, waterproof clothing is a good choice. If you want to go kayaking, contact local rental services in advance or bring your own equipment.

Important note

This is a destination for those who love tranquility and natural beauty. Please maintain cleanliness, do not litter, and respect the landscape to protect the pristine beauty of the forest.
