Recently, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the National Day holiday schedule for 2.9 in 2025 for officials, civil servants, public employees and workers. Accordingly, the 2.9 holiday lasts from Saturday, August 30 to Tuesday, September 2.
Go home to visit family and experience the festival
Choosing to return to her hometown during the September 2nd holiday, Tran Ngoc Anh Truc (24 years old), residing on Tran Thi Dieu Street, Phuoc Long Ward, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Phuoc Long B Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), shared: “I rarely travel during the holidays because I am afraid of crowds and traffic jams. Moreover, it is a rare occasion to have a holiday, so I want to take the opportunity to go home to visit my family and meet old friends.”

Khac Ngoc Dat (24 years old), living on Nguyen Du Street, Binh Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Binh Hoa Ward, Thuan An City, Binh Duong Province) also chose to return to his hometown in Quang Tri (formerly Quang Binh Province) during the holiday. Dat said that in addition to the 4 days off, Dat also combined additional vacation days to return to his hometown for a longer period.
“On the occasion of National Day in my hometown, there are many interesting activities, one could say more fun than Tet. The most special is the boat racing festival on Kien Giang River which takes place on September 2 every year,” Dat excitedly shared.
Perhaps that is why every September 2nd, Dat returns to his hometown instead of going on a trip. “I come home to visit after many months of working far away and join in the festival atmosphere in my hometown, so I never miss it,” Dat said.
There are also young people who choose to… not go anywhere. Vo Thi Kim Chi (23 years old), who works at a hospital on Cong Quynh Street, Ben Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Pham Ngu Lao Ward, District 1), chose to rest in place by staying in the city during the holiday.
“Traveling during the holidays is not only a traffic jam, but also very crowded at tourist destinations, the prices of everything seem to increase, and bus tickets are also hard to buy. So I used my vacation days to travel last month, and for the upcoming September 2nd holiday, I will stay in the city to rest. Usually on my days off, I go out to eat, go to cafes, take pictures, and enjoy those leisurely days, which is enough to chill out,” Chi said.
Where to go in Ho Chi Minh City?
During the 4-day holiday, Pham Thien An (26 years old), working on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, Xuan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Vo Thi Sau Ward, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City), chose to trek the Ta Nang - Phan Dung route (Lam Dong province).

“Normally, during the holidays, most people will choose to travel to places like Da Lat, Nha Trang... but when the majority choose like that, the trip will probably not be comfortable anymore because everywhere you go is full of people, crowded, traffic jams. I like to go trekking at times like this, because when I return to the forest, my mind is more relaxed, away from the dust of the city, the hustle and bustle and I listen to myself more”, An shared.
However, An also noted: “Trekking requires physical strength, endurance and spirit. Forest roads have little phone signal, and it is easy to get lost if you are not familiar with the route, so it is best to go in a group with a local guide.”
For those who do not have time to travel far, An suggests some places near Ho Chi Minh City such as: Dinh - Thi Vai mountain, Binh Chau - Phuoc Buu conservation area (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau province), Ba Den mountain (Tay Ninh province), Cat Tien national park (Dong Nai province).

Suggesting some places to visit near Ho Chi Minh City during the September 2 holiday, Trinh Van Viet (24 years old), working at TNK Travel (Ho Chi Minh City), said: “If you tend to travel green, Can Gio is a suitable choice. Thieng Lieng Island, about 70 km from the center of Ho Chi Minh City, is also an interesting place suitable for those who love peace, simplicity and breathing fresh air. Recently, a new emerging destination is attracting tourists, which is Ta Lai tourist area (Dong Nai province), with the wild and majestic beauty of mountains, forests, rivers and streams... This place is suitable for those who like activities close to nature and exploring traditional cultural values”.
If you choose to stay in the city during the holiday, Viet also suggests: "Currently, Ho Chi Minh City is emerging with Saigon river tours, short tours to watch the sunset on a cruise, dinner on a cruise, and river bus experiences."
