Quarter I.2025: Smuggling situation decreased but complexity tends to increase

In the first quarter of 2025, the situation of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods was generally controlled, no hot spots arose, and occurred on a small scale.

The main items of violation include: cigarettes, drugs, firecrackers, sugar, clothing, cosmetics, footwear, confectionery, fertilizers, raw materials and products of the textile, leather and footwear industries; goods used and destroyed in duty-free zones, goods used in factories; imported and exported goods subject to tax exemption or non-taxation, etc.

Units and localities arrested and handled 30,651 cases of violations (down 0.77% compared to the same period). Of which, the authorities discovered and arrested 6,754 cases of trading and transporting prohibited and smuggled goods; 22,774 cases of trade fraud and tax fraud; 1,113 cases of counterfeit goods and intellectual property violations.

State budget revenue was over VND 4,616.7 billion (up 59.45% over the same period); 1,328 criminal cases were prosecuted (up 18.36% over the same period), 2,046 subjects (up 21.35% over the same period).

In Tay Ninh, members of the Provincial Steering Committee 389 and districts, towns, cities and functional forces have seriously implemented the directives in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods. In the first quarter of 2025, functional forces and Steering Committee 389 of districts, towns and cities detected and arrested 211 cases/203 subjects (a decrease of 59 cases, 78 subjects compared to the same period); handled 160 administrative violations, total budget revenue of 2.5 billion VND; the value of confiscated goods in the period that have not been liquidated is estimated at about 38 million VND.

In addition, departments, branches and localities regularly carry out propaganda, dissemination and legaleducation , mobilizing people, especially people on the border, not to participate in or assist smuggling, not to use smuggled goods... contributing to changing people's awareness in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.

At the conference, the Steering Committee 389 of localities and members of the National Steering Committee 389 discussed and contributed many ideas to clarify the difficulties, obstacles and problems in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods; at the same time, proposed many solutions to improve the effectiveness of task implementation in the coming time.

It is forecasted that in the second quarter of 2025, the situation of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and illegal transportation of goods across the border in the area will likely become more complicated depending on the purchasing power of the market. Tay Ninh Steering Committee 389 continues to implement resolutions, directives, directions, and plans of the Government, Prime Minister , National Steering Committee 389, and Provincial People's Committee on strengthening the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and illegal transportation of goods across the border.

Departments, branches, People's Committees of districts, towns and cities promote internal coordination and coordination with related branches to exchange information, coordinate forces to fight and destroy smuggling rings, trade fraud and counterfeit goods taking place on routes, areas, units and fields under their responsibility.

Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of Steering Committee 389 of ministries, branches and localities in leading and directing units and forces to do a good job in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the first quarter as well as before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries, sectors and localities to continue to resolutely and synchronously implement solutions to effectively combat smuggling and trade fraud, contributing to stabilizing the market and protecting people's rights.
