Russell Martin was sacked by Rangers, ending the shortest reign in the club's history with just 123 days in charge.

Coach Russell Martin has the shortest tenure in Rangers history.

Following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Falkirk on October 5, Rangers' board held an emergency meeting and decided to terminate the contract of the 39-year-old English coach. Assistants Matt Gill and Mike Williamson will also leave the team.

The club's announcement stated: "Rangers Football Club can confirm that we have parted company with head coach Russell Martin. While transitions always take time, the current results have not met expectations. We thank Martin and his colleagues for their continued efforts over the past period."

Martin was appointed in June on a three-year contract, shortly after Rangers completed their ownership change, but was forced out after just four months with the club having won just one of their seven Scottish Premiership games.

For weeks, the stands at Ibrox have been filled with calls for Martin to be sacked. At Falkirk, after a poor draw, the former Southampton manager was even forced to leave the stadium through a side door with a police escort.

Martin arrived in Glasgow with a possession-based philosophy, but failed to convince his players or the crowd. Rangers lacked character, were blunt in attack and poor in defence, and repeatedly dropped points in games they seemed certain to win.

Martin ultimately left with just one domestic win, becoming the shortest-serving permanent manager in the club's history.
