On this occasion, the two sides officially announced the launch of the project “Amazing Nature”, inviting Vietnamese authors and artists to create a series of books inspired by the animals at the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The book series has just been completed and launched in March 2024.

The book series is written by authors who are journalists, with many years of experience writing books for children and adults such as: Tran Gia Bao, Phuong Huyen, Bui Tieu Quyen, Ho Huy Son, Uyen Thu. The authors bring vivid stories about animals living in Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens such as cranes, hippos, squirrels, crested pheasants, sheep, otters, box turtles, elephants, red-shanked douc langurs, ostriches, wolves, bears, and deer.

Each animal is told with its own story, with a cute, playful tone, along with realistic illustrations by artists, giving children and adults new feelings about these animals. Especially the last page of the book has more real pictures of animals, along with scientific information.

The book series is for children from 3 years old and up, educating their love of animals, observation, and imagination. Not only that, the book series is also for adults, for those who love animals, love Saigon Zoo and promote love, protect rare animals, animals listed in the Red Book that need to be preserved.

For the book “Saigon Zoo - Treasure in the heart of the city”, with 160 large-size color printed pages, the book is full of information and images about the rich flora and fauna here, especially the endemic species of our country that need to be preserved and develop rare gene sources.

The book includes the following contents: History of Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Zoo and Botanical Gardens through numbers, birds, animals, carnivores, ungulates, reptiles, plants. In addition, the book also has a section on animal and plant museums, rescue and release work.

If the series “Amazing Nature” is for kindergarten and primary school readers, “Zoo and Botanical Gardens - Treasure in the Heart of the City” is for all ages, from children and teenagers who want to learn about flora and fauna, to domestic people and international visitors who want to keep memories of the Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

Reading the book, readers will know that "A flock of lovebirds" in the old folk song refers to a flock of magpies; Santa Bear is a bear born in the Zoo.

Because they live in a climate that is not too cold, they do not hibernate properly, but in the cold season they only reduce their activity and sleep more. Did you know that in Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens there is a monkey skull tree that was imported and planted at the end of the 19th century, and that is the mother tree of all other monkey skull trees planted in Vietnam?

Surely reading this book, the next time you go to the Zoo, your trip will become a very valuable “extracurricular” experience, right in the heart of the city. Teachers and parents with this book will also be able to introduce many deep and interesting details to their children.
