This is the main content in the open letter of the Tax Department recently sent to the business community, households and individuals nationwide to raise awareness of tax law compliance, protect taxpayers' rights, and prevent tax fraud and evasion.
According to the Tax Department, there is currently a situation where a number of businesses, households and individuals have stopped doing business but have not declared, paid taxes, or completed procedures to terminate their tax codes with the tax authorities; they are even no longer operating at the registered business address but have not notified the authorities. These cases are creating many consequences in tax management, giving rise to virtual tax debts, causing losses to the state budget, and at the same time creating risks related to fraud and illegal invoice trading.
In order to support taxpayers in properly fulfilling their tax obligations and cleaning up business registration data, the Tax Department will conduct data comparison and verification between the tax registration system, business registration, population management data and actual data in the locality. Thereby accurately identifying cases that are no longer in actual operation, thereby taking timely and appropriate measures to handle them.
The tax authority recommends that businesses, households and individuals who have ceased operations should proactively contact the tax authority to complete the procedure for terminating the tax code and handling outstanding tax obligations (if any). Proactively coordinating with the tax authority will help taxpayers avoid legal risks such as tax enforcement, administrative sanctions, or criminal prosecution if there is fraud.
With the motto "Taxpayers self-declare, self-pay, self-responsible", proactively declaring and coordinating with authorities will contribute to building a healthy, transparent, and fair business environment for all economic sectors, while demonstrating civic responsibility in fulfilling obligations to the state budget.
Currently, the Tax Department of Region XIII is widely disseminating the Tax Department's open letter, recommending taxpayers to proactively review their business performance status and fully fulfill their tax obligations as prescribed.
