On the morning of August 20 (Vietnam time), Real Madrid defeated Osasuna with a minimum score of 1-0 in the late match of round 1 of La Liga.
This is also the first match of new head coach Xabi Alonso in the new season. Although the Spanish strategist has led the team since the FIFA Club World Cup, this tournament is counted in the 2024-2025 season.
Coach Alonso fielded the strongest possible lineup, with the trio of Mbappe - Vinicius - Brahim Diaz in attack. In defense, all three new recruits Arnold, Huijsen, and Carreras were on the field.
In terms of play, Real Madrid were still quite stuck in this match. They lacked attacking ideas and could only rely on Mbappe's breakthrough moments. The French striker created a few notable chances in the first half.
Early in the second half, Mbappe officially scored for Real Madrid when he dribbled into the penalty area, forcing Juan Cruz to commit a foul, and bringing a penalty for the team.
It was also Mbappe who successfully finished the penalty, helping Real Madrid take the lead in the 51st minute.
After this goal, Real Madrid continued to dominate with a possession rate of up to 71%. However, they did not create many notable opportunities. At the same time, they still had to face counter-attacks from Osasuna.
Newcomer Arnold also disappointed in this match, having to leave the field to make way for Carvajal in the 68th minute. Towards the end of the match, Real Madrid focused on keeping the ball firmly to preserve the 1-0 victory.
With 3 points, the Spanish royal team seems to have achieved their goal, although their performance was not enough to meet fans' expectations.
