A bustling new spring in the suburbs.

Spring is arriving throughout the suburban areas of Hanoi, bringing with it the fresh breath of change. From the bustling rural markets leading up to Tet, to the well-maintained and clean village roads, to the thoughtful care and attention of Party committees and authorities towards policy beneficiary families and households in difficult circumstances... all blend together to create a warm and meaningful spring. In particular, Tet Binh Ngo 2026 marks the first year nationwide the implementation of a two-tiered local government model. In the communes of Hanoi, this new model is clearly felt in how local Party committees and authorities directly address and resolve the practical needs of the people, ensuring a more fulfilling Tet in every home.

Tet reunion - a warm spring

In the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), visiting Hat Mon commune, we could clearly feel the spirit of spring spreading throughout the countryside. On February 7th and 8th (corresponding to the 20th and 21st days of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake), the "Compassionate Tet - Connecting with Love" program was organized with many rich and practical activities, attracting a large number of people to participate.

The grounds of Hat Mon Temple – the shrine of the Trung Sisters – were filled with the sounds of spring music and lively laughter. From early morning, Ms. Dang Thi Hoang Anh and many other women from Hat Mon commune were busy preparing bananas, pomelos, and other fruits to bring to the fruit platter arrangement competition. Each type of fruit and each flower symbolized a wish for a peaceful and prosperous new year. Ms. Hoang Anh's team, named "Binh An" (Peace and Tranquility), won third prize, much to the delight of the participants.

According to Ms. Kieu Thi Kim Dung, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hat Mon commune, the "Compassionate Tet - Connecting Love" program not only carries profound humanitarian significance but also demonstrates the responsibility of the Party Committee, government, Fatherland Front, and mass organizations in social welfare work. "More importantly, this is an opportunity to mobilize the joint efforts of the business community, organizations, and benevolent individuals so that everyone, every family, can have a happy Tet," Ms. Dung shared.

The highlight of the program is the "Zero-Cost Tet Shopping" model for disadvantaged households, interspersed with cultural and artistic activities, a chess competition, fruit platter decoration, and folk games. Alongside this is a space for displaying and introducing OCOP products and typical local products. Notably, livestreaming to promote rural products is also organized, opening up a new direction in the development of the digital economy in rural areas.

Participating in the chess tournament, Mr. Trinh Xuan Thanh, Head of the Veterans Association of Noi 2 - Tam Thuan village, Hat Mon commune, emotionally shared: “The 2026 Lunar New Year is the first Tet holiday under the two-tiered local government model, so there are many new aspects of administrative reform. Besides that, local leaders continue to pay close attention to the lives of the people. Near-poor households, disadvantaged households, and families receiving preferential treatment are all visited and given gifts. We elderly people also participated in the lively and joyful chess tournament. The atmosphere of Tet preparations is also bustling in the villages and hamlets. On the 25th day of the 12th lunar month, the entire village conducts a general cleaning and beautifies the village roads and alleys to welcome the new spring.”

Not only in Hat Mon, but also in the suburbs of Hanoi, reporters from Hanoi's newspapers, radio, and television have observed that a highlight of this year's spring in the suburbs is the simultaneous organization of Tet reunion and loving spring programs by local authorities, focusing on caring for policy beneficiary families, poor and near-poor households, people with difficult circumstances, and migrant workers.

In Lien Minh commune, on the afternoon of the 22nd day of the 12th lunar month, the commune Party Committee hall was more bustling than usual. The commune, in coordination with sponsors, distributed 235 Tet (Lunar New Year) gifts to disadvantaged households in the area. According to Nguyen Huu Manh, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lien Minh commune, although the locality no longer has any poor households, there are still 62 near-poor households and many households with difficult circumstances that need attention and support. The Tet gifts, handed directly to the recipients along with kind words and warm handshakes, brought the spirit of "no one is left behind" earlier than usual.

The spring of change

The Chợ hamlet in Cẩm Đình village, Phúc Lộc commune, is brightly celebrating the Lunar New Year of Bính Ngọ 2026.

In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, familiar spring melodies echoed throughout the villages. People busied themselves cleaning their yards and tidying their houses, hanging national flags in front of their homes. Village roads were "dressed in new clothes" with colorful flags, flowers, and banners, creating a vibrant and joyful spring scene. A notable new feature this year is that many communes in Hanoi have proactively built spring-themed photo spots, creating community spaces to meet the needs of people, especially young people, for celebrating the spring and taking pictures. In Phuc Loc commune, implementing the plan to celebrate the Party and the spring, the locality has simultaneously carried out many tasks, most notably creating a spring landscape rich in cultural identity.

Many village roads and alleys have been cleaned and beautified, with additional flowers and trees planted. Elaborate murals depicting themes of homeland, family, and cultural traditions have been painted, harmonizing with the rural landscape, creating a vibrant scenery while raising awareness of environmental preservation within the community.

At the cultural centers, communal houses, and temples in the villages, many creative spring-themed displays have been created, such as village gates for Tet (Lunar New Year), green banh chung (traditional rice cakes), peach blossoms, conical hats, lanterns, and red couplets... All are arranged harmoniously, becoming attractive community spaces. Particularly noteworthy is the spring decoration at Van Coc communal house – a typical historical and cultural relic of the locality – which is vibrant with peach blossoms, kumquats, apricot blossoms, chrysanthemums... combined with traditional miniature landscapes, maintaining a solemn and ancient atmosphere while attracting locals and tourists. The head of the Van Coc communal house management board, Phung Van Thanh, said that decorating the spring space creates a highlight, contributing to honoring and preserving traditional cultural values, helping the younger generation to become more connected to their homeland's heritage. The Vice Chairman of Phuc Loc Commune People's Committee, Dinh Xuan Hanh, also expressed: "Spring contributes to beautifying the rural landscape, improving the spiritual life, and promoting the image of Phuc Loc as an increasingly prosperous and civilized place."

In the peach blossom village of Hong Ha (O Dien commune), the last days of the twelfth lunar month are the busiest time of year. Favorable weather conditions have helped the peach trees grow well, with thick buds, large blossoms, and vibrant colors. Mr. Nguyen Van Quyet, a long-time peach blossom grower, said that this year, his family sold nearly 80,000 peach blossom branches and more than 1,300 bonsai peach trees to the market. By the beginning of 2026, the Hong Ha peach blossom growing area has a total area of nearly 50 hectares, supplying the market with more than 350,000 peach blossom branches and more than 3,500 bonsai peach trees, bringing a stable income to the people...

A new spring, filled with hopeful expectations, is present everywhere. Along with the rest of the country, the outskirts of Hanoi are undergoing positive changes, with flourishing rural areas, agriculture developing towards a commodity-based approach, and farmers continuously improving their material and spiritual lives. The combined vitality of favorable conditions – timing, location, and human factors – is creating momentum for the capital and the nation to confidently enter a new era – an era of national progress.
